The interest in the commercial condo space has been very high and we continue to get a couple residential sales per week. Hopefully we'll have a couple new things to announce in Q1-2017.
Any new announcements Ben Myers? What's going on with this project?

There was an Ontario Superior Court decision in August to the effect that syndicated mortgage investors can't sue the CEO and COO of Fortress, Rathore and Petrozza. They can only sue Fortress itself.

(This may not be the progress you were hoping for.)

The biggest question now is what happens to St. Regis. I for one have always favoured the potential of restoring/reusing it... I hope the city doesn't allow it torn down. There's no shortage of parkades in the area if the condos aren't going up.

^ At this point the city would be crazy to allow the St. Regis to get demolished. I mean, if the writing isn't on the wall by now, what would it take?

Yeah, but Fortress was trying to make the case they need to do it before construction starts, so let's just hope the city sticks to their guns and makes sure SkyCity is built above ground level before they do that. There's a perfectly good surface lot they could rent for staging right across Garry if that's really the issue.

For once, I do have faith in the city on this one. They know the deal.

Devil's Advocate here:

We SAY that a redeveloped St Regis (or Albert, or St Charles, etc) would be absolutely fantastic.

That dangerously assumes that someone would actually go ahead and DO that. Is there actually any interest from any developers to take on projects such as these?

There are a few accomplished heritage re-developers, but that doesn't mean they'd take on THESE buildings...

At least the potential remains with boarded up buildings. Once demolition happens, the possibility is gone forever.

Just look at how many heritage buildings sat vacant for years before something happened with them... Union Bank Tower, the buildings on Princess that are now part of RRC, Crocus Building.

Yeah obviously that's in an ideal scenario where someone wants to restore it, but as esquire said, that potential is better than yet another parkade, or more likely in this case, nothing but an empty lot.

I don’t think the St. Regis will survive.

Given the company involved I wouldn't be surprised if we woke up one day to an demolished building and an "IOU - 1 building" note attached to the rubble.

i think his post just reflects how people feel about this project in general

theres been minimal to zero progress related to this project lately.. im not familiar with anything going on behind the scenes but for a project that was supposed to complete demolition and start excavation months ago this just doesnt give much hope.. ive tried to be positive and i still hope against all logic and commen sense this project will materialize one day.. but im not that naive or blinded by delusional positivity.

those days are behind me..

I loved your enthusiasm and positivity, but now, if even you have the faintest hope that this project will materialize, we can say that skycity is all but dead.
