For some reason I thought I remember reading the that school board was wanting to go ahead with redevelopment. (Or maybe it was another site they have)

Still digging. The west side of the pit is getting more carved out now.

mcminsen you always have me very jealous. I love your records from all corners of the city. Many years ago I took a couple of years off (mostly) and just wandered cities taking pictures, making sketches, but mostly just living some kind of urban immersion. Toronto, Montreal, Boston, New York, Baltimore, Chicago, Berlin, London, even little old Victoria . . . I walked endlessly. Now, every time I see a sunny set of your pictures, I miss it.

Thanks for all your pics mcminsen! One day I'll be living here so I often make trips to walk by, but I can see far more detail with your photos. Progress seems painstakingly slow but, oh well..

Yes, some stages can seem very slow. I check a lot of sites weekly and often choose not to post pics because there is no significant visible progress.

That being said, I think they have removed a lot more dirt from the Independent site since my last post. Maybe the first crane will be erected in the next month or so?

Hope they don't leave tie-back rods in that Broadway wall that would be an issue for a TBM (though the TBM may be deeper (?))

Tie back rods and anchors are not nearly substantial enough to cause difficulty for a TBM. They would just get munched up without notice.

The TBM would almost definitely be deeper than that. Probably another 2 levels down from where the pit bottoms out.

Rendering in a VanCity Buzz article by a Rize VP.
It looks cleaner than some others I've seen.

Looks like the base for the first crane is getting established.

Is that the tidiest excavation in Vancouver history. Some drunk guy must bust in at night and sculpt while he sings.
