Why call it "folklore"? No one would call a mainstream European singer from the 1930s "folklore".

I don't think turluttage qualifies as Quebecois folk. The start of Quebec folk is with Joseph Conrad who, while promoting Madame Bolduc at the start of her career, still strongly considered what he was doing was folk music. Turluttage was considered in the same league as cabaret, country (Wilf Carter, Hank Snow), jazz (Jelly Roll Morton, Graydon Tipp) and ragtime (Willie Epstein) in Canada, emerging forms of pop music.

British folk music would be a bit broad - I think you'd have to break it down into English, Scottish, Welsh, and Irish folk (at least).

It never dawned on me what Bonjour Hi meant. I thought it was just a polite way of saying hello. You can tell how antisocial I am ha. (I walked around Montreal listening to my Walkman in the early 2000s, kind of like today's kids wearing their airpods everywhere. Good tip to just ignore the fact I don't remember any French at all nowadays. In high school, I had the top score in 9th & 10th grade before abruptly dropping it for German, which was a huge mistake.)

By the way, this you posted sounds very much like 1950s Parisian cabaret songs. I wouldn't be surprised if the guy drew his inspiration from there (as this was not a sort of music traditional to French Canada).

Patachou, for example, was a popular singer from the 1950s cabaret scene, same style of music as in your video:

There's one of her songs that has almost exactly the same tune as in your Québécois song, but I can't put a finger on it right now.

My favorite song by Patachou is this one (featuring Georges Brassens too), which is a real gem. A very short song, but everything is perfect, music and lyrics (which are so not French with their cute positivity). This is the sort of music that all the Québécois singers from the 1960s and 1970s listened to in their youth.
