The new train stations are amazing, but are they all located in the inner cities?

Because that's what really sucks about Taiwan's new highspeed system. It shortened the travel time from Taipei to Kaohsiung from 5.5 to 1.5 hours, but a lot of the new stations are located 20 or even 25km away from the downtown area.

Wow. Wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow... Wow... Wowwowwowowowwowwowwowwowwowwowwowwow wow.

That is amazing stuff.

I'm curious, since China's HSR, like Europe's, is in the same gauge as the main railroad network, whether there's a lot of interchange between the two (especially in urban areas) or if Chinese HSR is by and large, like in Europe, on separate gradients and ROWs?

Another question: considering how shallow the Yellow Sea is, is there a long-range plan to connect Tianjin and Seoul via a Yellow Sea tunnel? Or are they so dead-set on a line to Taipei that they're not going to invest in other foreign investment?

The U.S. definitely needs to step up its HSR game, too.

Right now it seems like they are rebuilding every major station in the country as well as building new ones. I went to Hefei this weekend and the station there is under complete reconstruction, and on return to Shanghai I saw the full extent of the renovations being done at Shanghai Station as well. It's unbelievable the amount of money China is pouring into its railways - without a doubt the biggest investment in a single nation's rail system in history. I can't wait to see the results.

Sort of on a side note, the Shanghai-Nanjing railway is SLOW... The train I was on could do 250km/h (CRH1, made by Bombardier/Sifang) and it held that speed for most of the Hefei-Nanjing stretch. But once we passed Nanjing, it only broke 200km/h for a short stretch, and was running at 150km/h or less for most of the Nanjing-Shanghai journey. I'd imagine the new Shanghai-Nanjing HSR line will remedy this problem, though.

The HSR to Taipei will not happen. This is just proporganda from the Chinese government. Those videos are from 2008 and the news anchor lady asked to people from Taiwan about this. The one lady stated that she not seen or heard about this project in Taiwan news besides a some posts on the internet.

Now, the only way I can see this project happening is if China takes control of Taiwan. And that wont happen any time soon. As for the us Taiwanese, this project wont happen because currently we are still in transition with the direct flight to China. And these flights are doing ok, but not as good as our government has told us.

amazing stuff. As a US citizen, it's just sad that we can't pull something even 1/100th as nice as this off. Instead of investing in infrastructure and ourselves, it's importing cheap crap and bombing foreign lands with bureaucratic fat cats leading the way.

China is just killing it with worldclass railroads, airports and transportation in general.

Amazing to see such advanced technology serving the people. I think Amtrak goes 100kmh if it is maintained enough to run the route. 380kmh, that's pretty quick!

Geez, America's being left in the dust, transportation-wise. We need to step up now.

I'm starting to wonder if Atlas Shrugged was a massive self-fulfilling prophecy...?

Yeah, did anyone notice these stations are ungodly expensive? Where do you suspect the money is coming from when the history of high speed rail is largely non profitable. Can anyone say debt bomb? Never going to happen here, this is Dubai like development on steroids. It's not at all sustainable.
