The Idaho State Board of Education last week approved a new doctoral program in materials science and engineering at Boise State.
Materials science involves the study of advanced materials, including metals and their composites, polymers and bio-materials. The field is multidisciplinary in nature, combining elements of physics, chemistry, biology and engineering.
“This new Ph.D. program signals Boise State’s intent to play a major role in the creation of materials that will encourage the advancement of science and technology and have a significant economic impact on Idaho and beyond,” said Boise State President Bob Kustra in a news release.
“This department has been on the rise with nationally and internationally recognized faculty and research, particularly in the areas of novel materials, biological sciences and nanotechnology.”
This is the seventh doctoral program at Boise State. The other programs include biomolecular sciences, geosciences, geophysics, electrical and computer engineering, educational technology, and education curriculum and instruction.
