SHANGHAI | Wheelock Square Tower | 977 FT / 298 M | 58 FLOORS

Unfortunately, the original thread on this building was trimmed, so we'll have to start fresh.

It's located on Nanjing West Rd. in the heart of the Jing An Business District. It will be a 58 floor office tower and the tallest in Puxi until the Kerry Center expansion and the Xujiahui Tower top it in the coming years.

This building has taken a long time to rise (it officially started back in 2004), but finally (as of October 2007), it's on it's way up, waaay up!

Architect: Kohn Pedersen Fox

Some renderings and my photos from the past couple of years.

I stopped covering it for over a year as they built the underground floors. I went back in September 2007 to find this:

And then this:

I've just moved in to a new apartment that is three blocks away from this site, so expect a detailed account of this building in the coming months/years.

If the cladding on this is anything like KPF's IFC in Hong Kong, this should be a stunning tower.

These are about a week old

Nov 28

They've finally put up a proper rendering of the building. It took long enough.

Just kidding. Sorry...couldn't help myself. I think this building will be a knock-out when done.

Not sure. There was an ad in the local paper recently that said it's going to be Puxi's tallest.

It's weird that Shanghai doesn't have a single skyscraper in the 300-400 m range (excluding spires).
Wheelock came close...

The new Xujiahui tower should change that.

Not anymore. It's been reduced to 340m.

Where's the new Xujiahui Tower going? Is it close to the other big skyscrapers in the area (the two above the Grand Gateway Mall)?

The huge plot next to Grand Gateway on Hongqiao Lu - it's already cleared and ready for construction (incl. an extension of the metro station).

I'm almost tempted to start a thread on the Xujiahui project. It's been approved, and as far as I know, it's UC.

Maybe we can get Bob Loblaw to go check the site for us seeing as it's just a few blocks away from his place.
