This was fun! We'll definitely have to do this more than once a decade

We'll have to that again. It was too loud so I couldn't hear anyone more than two people down though. Maybe we could all get together again this spring or summer and get a good patio spot or something?

As I proposed during the meet, we should have a picnic in the median of the Ottawa River Parkway to celebrate the NCC's gallant defense of our rights as Canadians to unbridled access to the Ottawa River

I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the meet up yesterday. I'm curious about the conversation. Was it mostly just getting to know each other or was it forum type of conversation about development and urbanism? Has meeting each other in person enhanced your experience of this forum? Just curious.

It was nice to meet many of you. Good conversation. I do like the picnic in the median idea.
Cheers!

It was a mix of both. Just some stories, tales of travel, how other cities do things, and what's good and what can be fixed about Ottawa.

How about another meetup guys? Last time was fun. I'm thinking Friday the 27th of June on a patio somewhere?

Maybe. I'm not sure the 27th works for me, but don't let that stop the rest of you.

Couple of things:

1) I seriously take offence to that image and what it represents.

2) I'd like to join y'all but I'm in France next Friday, so cannot make that proposed date.

I meant no offence. Just out of curiosity, what does it represent?

Prejudice against people who put tape on their glasses and wear the waistbands on their shorts high. It implies that people who wear baggy jeans down to their butts exposing underwear are superior.

It represents an open attack on people of often high intelligence, but awkward social skills and fashion sense.

In my lifetime I have seen how other groups visible in our society have been targeted as the but of jokes or for not being worthy of equal treatment. In fact pretty much any minority starting with women and moving to visible minorities, gays, etc. were once subject to this but no longer are. Few would make a "little moron joke" today, or a sexist or homophobic one. So why do we still accept this for other groups including the one pictured above.

Just as Queer Nation took back words and stereotypes associated with homosexuality http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reclaimed_word I feel it is long past the time to do the same for this other identifiable group of which to some measure I am a member. The Revenge of the Nerds movies were a start, and while I refuse to watch any television programming with a laugh track, the Big Bang Theorey may be achieving some net gains despite its blatant stereotyping.

Considering I'm a card-carrying member, I would consider it self-deprecation.

But again, no offence intended.
