We will have to wait and see if it is confirmed and if they move forward.

I think it's obvious that if the team is established they will have a good fanbase (the various one-off events and Wanderers being about as good a proof of concept as you can get) and the stadium probably isn't a huge issue as long as they focus on the minimum requirements.

https://www.cfl.ca/2023/11/29/touchdown-pacific-2024/

Touchdown Pacific sold out in only a few hours. Though it looks like the venue only houses about 10-14 thousand.

I think this is a joke… or an attempt by someone to get a game here just to make some money.

Here is what’s written on their webpage about both Moncton and Halifax.

“ Halifax and Moncton in Atlantic Canada suffer from a pervasive socio-economic malaise which has resulted to persistent of relatively high rates of crime. Their local governments are essentially is disarray and have unsurprisingly have lacked the will to commit to the development of a new CFL team.

PEI in sharp contrast is characterized by unified communities which have very low rates of crime and both provincial and municipal governments highly oriented toward tourism.”

Woof. What a dumb take.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/...a-by-province/

Seems Alberta, SK, and Manitoba have the highest Crime Severity Indexes and those are the CFLs best markets. Maybe they should reconsider NS and NB seeing as how we are a wretched hive of scum and villainy (per this uniformed opinion).

They have a Quebec contact number and a head office in Ottawa. Seems like an ownership group that is just looking for any place to put a team.

They can build the Stadium in Toronto, P.E.I. and then the Toronto Argonauts can move to Toronto, P.E.I.!

I have always thought that the idea of there being enough interest in Moncton or Halifax to support a CFL team was farfetched. It is truly wild to think that a population of 175,000 could support a 25,000 person stadium. That is nearly 15% of your whole province needing to be in a seat to watch a football game, for a sellout. PEI would also benefit the least from a regional pull standpoint as even fewer Maritimers are going to make the jaunt to PEI for a football game (bridge fee) compared to Moncton/Halifax.

Obviously this is a farce, and does not warrant discussion... Oh crap i fell for it.

I'd rather get more Canadian Premier League soccer teams than the CFL. No one really cares about the CFL east of Manitoba.

That seems to be the consensus these days.

I feel that out of the top potential locations for CPL teams in Canada, 2 of them, arguably 3, are in Atlantic Canada.

They're in that rare sweet spot of being both isolated enough to be the only real (pro) sports show in the entire province, while having a sufficiently large local population to still get decent crowds on colder spring/fall nights.

Finding capable and dedicated ownership groups will always be the biggest hurdle though. I'd love to see more ownership arrangements with foreign clubs like what Atlético Madrid have with Ottawa.
