Riverside Resources was behind the original version of this project, and they still own the site.

Updates to the site plan indicate that this will be 400' with 350 dwelling units and two restaurants.

Glad to see the restaurant spaces. Good on the developer.

Let’s Check In With the West Avenue Residential Tower Plan

https://austin.towers.net/lets-check...al-tower-plan/

It’s been four years since our mildly controversial assertion that a new downtown residential tower could soon rise at 506 and 508 West Avenue, adjacent tracts currently occupied by restaurants Irene’s and Taquero Mucho — and although nothing’s broken ground yet at this 0.57-acre land assembly, it’s become increasingly clear that a tower plan is moving forward at this site. Notification letters arrived earlier this month for all property owners and residents within 500 feet of the 506-508 properties, indicating that the city had received an application for administrative approval of a site plan for a residential building at this location. Here’s a picture of one we received from a reader, in case you don’t believe us for some reason:

The elevations were added to the site plan. Some guessing is needed, but it's about 415' and 37-stories. They are in the AW comments file.

The NIMBYs in surrounding buildings seem to be out in full force against this one. Look at how many IP letters are attached to the site plan review!!! Astounding hypocrisy.

Looks like it will have some interesting curves, if otherwise kind of squat:

Yup -- Every IP letter I checked came from a resident of 5th & West, or from Austin City Lofts. It's always incredible to me how many NIMBYs live in downtown highrises.

Particularly ironic are a few from 5th & West residents saying that this development would remove two restaurants from the area. They aren't wrong, but their own building did absolutely nothing for the area either....

I like the rounded edges. Nice change from our standard glass box approach. Very interested to see what a full rendering looks like.

When they purchased their units, they were very likely told that their views were not protected. Even if they weren't, they knew damn well that buildings could/would eventually go up next to theirs. They are being complete jackasses.

If I remember correctly, the new building is supposed to have at least two retail/restaurant spaces. So they are being purposely obtuse and/or disingenuous when they make such claims. It's laughable that they would think that this argument would work in the least bit to prevent the building from going up next to them.

Some of the complaints are against this project are because it's too close to Shoal Creek and they have environmental concerns. But they were OK with their buildings being by Shoal Creek. One even said that there are too many high-rises in the area. Nobody was honest about their view disappearing.

I kid you not, I read one from a 5th & West resident that claimed tall buildings are an ugly eyesore on the Austin skyline.

That's worse than the folks whose houses were built yesterday-ish complaining about the historical views and such...

Funny. Wouldn't one require different sized buildings to even create a "skyline"?

So long as said buildings don't interfere with their view of other differently sized buildings.

Based on the site plans released so far I think this is going to chalk up to being a pretty nice building. The parking podium doesn't seem to be very visible from the street, there appear to be some nice curves, and the inward angle of the balconies adds a nice touch. Based on the images so far this reminds me of a taller version of the Faena House in Miami by Norman Foster. Hope it turns out nice!
