A good change.

Thank u 4 the comparison Photo. I don't like change much, but replacing the Granite with Glass makes this building look better.

I can't believe this building is landmarked, it has to be one of the worst in Manhattan, it sucks that NYC is stuck with it forever.

While it may not of been built in the best location, this building is one of the finest examples of the International Style that I can think of. Not every building can or should look like ESB or 30 Rock.

Modern skyscrapers have a serious appearance (without the classiest decoration).

This is one of those buildings that I find very attractive. Very handsome. But I hate its location. I think it doesn't look so great in context, but on its own I really like it

Alamo Drafthouse to open 40K sf theater at 28 Liberty
Dinner-and-a-movie chain joins iPic in Lower Manhattan’s growing movie-house scene

May 22, 2017

Quote:
The popular dinner-and-a-movie theater Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is about to sign a lease for 10-screen, 40,000-square-foot multiplex at 28 Liberty, the latest movie house to call the Financial District home.

The deal is the latest move in Chinese conglomerate Fosun International’s overhaul of the 2.2 million-square-foot former Chase Manhattan Plaza, which includes a new restaurant on the 60th floor by celebrity chef Danny Meyer.

Alamo is set to open in 2018 in the building’s third below-ground level, but will have visibility at street level with exterior and interior signage, the New York Post reported. The theater will have room for 600 seats.

The terms of the deal weren’t clear, but retail asking rents at the building have been reported in the area of $100 per square foot.

Inside Danny Meyer’s New Sky-High NYC Restaurant
Located at the top of an iconic midcentury tower, Manhatta is a fresh recipe of domestic-design cues and breathtaking views

Quote:
Meyer has made a name for himself by bringing an alchemic mix of exceptional food, exceedingly gracious staff, and finely tuned atmosphere to a number of unexpected locations: Citi Field, Madison Square Park, JFK airport, the Saratoga racetrack. So when an opportunity arose to open a 30,000-square-foot restaurant and bar (Manhatta) and private-event space (the Bay Room) on the 60th floor of 28 Liberty Street, the iconic Skidmore, Owings & Merrill–designed tower in Downtown Manhattan, Meyer didn’t balk. The author of industry bible Setting the Table and founder of Union Square Hospitality Group, Meyer says the unfortunate tendency for "high-altitude" eateries at the top of skyscrapers is to make them too formal, such that the space and service compete with the dramatic panorama.
Quote:
To be sure, the views at Manhatta (whose name was inspired by the Walt Whitman poem "Manahatta," his ode to New York City) are magnificent, but they're just one ingredient in a complex recipe. Guests arrive via private elevators from a separate lobby at street level, near the 1961 International Style building's famous plaza, which is anchored by Jean Dubuffet's black-and-white sculpture Group of Four Trees. Upon entering the restaurant, one is greeted by a 40-foot walnut-and-granite bar in front of a wall of windows facing east over the tops of neighboring towers, the East River, and Brooklyn beyond. It's a distinct vantage that Meyer knew was special on his very first visit. "It feels like a gift to have lived in this city for over 30 years and to have a fresh perspective on my home for the first time," he says, "and I love that the back bar is Manhattan rather than a bunch of bottles of booze."

Lovely building, top 10 NYC skyscraper in my book.

The only thing I don't care for is how there's the older building in the corner of the block. It would have been better if it took up the whole block. But there's not much anyone could do about that.

That is very good to see a restaurant open to the public on the top floor of One Chase Manhattan Plaza. Does anyone here know if One Chase Manhattan Plaza had an observation deck before the Workd Trade Center Twin Towers were opened to the public.
