i'm liking what i'm seeing from the bigger renderings posted. classic Pickard Chilton facade detailing. rarely earth-shattering, but always solid, solid work!

i also dig the sail effect when viewed from the south. very appropriate for its location without being too literal and kitschy.

Wow, nice design. My only concern is that it seems to hog all the attention in the skyline and disrupt what was a fairly uniform "streetwall" of sorts building along the lakefront. However, I think that might just be an example of rendering puffery when in reality it will not be as prominent versus the rest of the skyline.

I wonder how they plan to manage the logistics of constructing this tower in the place of the demolished existing building. Is it going to fit entirely on the existing "plaza" portion of the site allowing them to tear down the existing facility after construction of the new building is complete?

Also, between this an Couture, Milwaukee could AGAIN be adding new 2nd and 3rd tallest buildings for the second time in roughly 10 years after they added University Club and Kilbourn Tower as the new #2 and #3 in the mid 2000's. I know I've seen it said before on this forum, but it really does seem like Milwaukee's boom never really slowed down in the recession. Every time I've been there recently there has been block after block of new construction around downtown.

neither scenario did happen or will happen.

when the university club tower and kilbourne tower were built last decade, they represented a new 3rd and 7th tallest for the milwaukee skyline at that point in time.

and if both NML tower and the couture get built to their proposed heights, they would represent a new 2nd and 4th tallest for the milwaukee skyline.

The existing facility is being demolished first, starting in December, because it stands in the way of part of the new building's footprint. The process of relocating occupants to other NM buildings in the Downtown Campus and suburban Franklin Campus have been going on for several months already to prep for demolition.

To me this begs a question: is it possible that the existing building could be brought down with a controlled implosion? Or is it more likely that they will use a more conventional demolition method? I'd guess the latter, but an implosion would be unique and certainly a hoot to watch.

Milwaukee really deserves these two 500+ers. There are so many beautiful pre-war buildings downtown. The river, the lake, the museum. A few taller buildings will just make it that much better.

Starting in December, the building will be dismantled floor by floor--a process that will run until Fall 2014.

Wow! What a great design. I LOVE the way it interacts with the older U-shaped building. Even the park looks nice. Good stuff, Milwaukee.

A great looking tower. I like that sloped roof and curved facade.

can't wait to see this one rise. it'd be great if both this and the Couture could go up at the same time.

demolition of the existing 16 story NML building on the site has commenced. here's a recent shot from AcctStdntUWM over at SSC:

here's a great composite rendering of both NML and the couture, put together by a forumer over at SSC. milwaukee will have a brand new lakefront skyline if both of these towers get built.
