Probably depends if you shop with a cart or a hand-held basket.

That shouldn't be an issue, to begin with.

Markets in downtown (urban) settings tend to be visited by customers more frequently, buying fewer items each visit (since few drive to them), so customers would use a hand basket.

The CityMarket concept is supposed to be a more urban concept - but whether or not that works in this suburban area is yet to be seen.

There is quite a bit of density within walking distance of this development. There's the former brewery lands to the north which have a dozen or more 6+ story condo buildings. There's a lot of development going on along Arbutus. There's a big townhouse development on the corner of Arbutus and King Ed. It's also a pretty short walk away from Broadway (6 blocks).

Ooops, you are right! You cannot believe for how long I have been mixing this project with the other one on Cambie Street right next to Queen Elizabeth Park. Too funny!

Was in the City Market at Ridge today around 2:00pm, very busy, far busier than the Meinhardts ever seemed to be. Store is great, a much more compact version of the Lonsdale location but they managed to pack in all of what makes City Market unique, great cheeses, deli and takeaway, breads and overall a very contemporary upmarket and progressive feel.

The store was also in the since demolished building which lacked parking and curb appeal.

The Loblaws product will work fine, there's no nearby outlet for President's Choice, the PC Plus program has a huge following but most importantly the City Market concept is great, very urban, timely, hip and progressive with some great product, great store design and competitive prices.
Lacked parking? It had a parking lot to the north and across Arbutus! Anyway here's some shots I took at night with my phone (sorry for the quality). Not impressed with that sterile plaza. City Market was nice though.
