^I don't see the similarity to the Russia Tower, aside from the height. The shape of the building, structural system, and tapering are all quite different. The Russia Tower is shaped more like a tapering Lake Point Tower, but with right angles instead of curves in plan. The structural system for the SOM design is based on a bulging curvilinear Michell's Truss, not just a straight up linear diagrid system.

The KPF design is a hell of a lot like the Complex Federation tower, but moreso from seeing the model of the KPF design on page 1 of the thread.... it even appears to have some sort of separate thin cylindrical core attached to the building. The KPF design is ok, it just isn't doing it for me.

Foster's design is very reminiscent of his design for Russia almost crossed with his unbuilt Tokyo tower. The model is also on page 1.. I hadnt seen the model pictures before.

Figured I would give this thread a bump. It has been a full two weeks since I last posted. Is there really no news about a winner for this competition yet?

There is a winner, a tweaked design seen earlier. They liked the orignal so much they decided to make a twin.

^Heh. Two of them certainly doesn't make it any less hideous.

So, nobody has heard anything about the real winner?

I don't see Shanghai beating out HK, Chicago, or NYC just yet.

Nice, I can't believe how fast that CBD is changing with all these projects.

Well I like Shaghai more than NYC and Chicago because the skyline seems to be more alive than NYC's and Chicago's, only my opinion tho...

I think Dubai will have the best skyline in 2010 because they are building 10+ supertalls and 1 gigantic tower.

Anyway, I still like the KPF design but the SOM one is growing on me.

From that rendering and other pics ive seen, it looks like there is quite a bit of empty space for development. is it possible that there could be 2 winners for this?

What project are these two towers? They look good with the WFC and the proposed Shanghai Center. (start new thread maybe)

wait, they have a world finance centre -and- and international financial centre?
Beautiful buildings, all of them, but I think they need to hire a advertising firm or something to come up with some new names

^^
Seems like every city needs a WFC, IFC, ICC etc. nowadays. Just look at Hong Kong.
Generally, though, I quite like the building names in Shanghai - but there are of course some really bad ones.
