Not at all. For one thing, the tower is still in the design phase.

Quote:
The building, which is zoned for more than 2.3 million square feet of development, is still in the design phases.

For another:

Quote:
Cross told TRD that there will most likely be a small residential component and that Related is considering including a hotel. The details are sparse, but construction is estimated to begin in 2017.

Any hotel or residential space would likely be above the office space. That model is meant to be shown as a "mixed-use" development, not what will actually get built. It could be a while before we finally get to see what will be built. But beyond that, it's zoned for commercial space (which could include some small amount of residential). As one of the so called "four corners" towers that the city specifically rezoned for office space centered around it's flagship Hudson Yards subway stop, I highly doubt Related would go the way of Silverstein and try for a residential rezoning.

Recent Photos Show Hudson Yards Taking Shape

Quote:
Bordered by 10th Avenue, 11th Avenue, West 30th Street, and West 34th Street, the Eastern Yard is currently a web of cranes and steel. Recent photos depict the mesmerizing scene at the site of phase one, with nearly all of its buildings now under construction.

That has to be the most obnoxious tower I've ever seen. Really detracts from 30 Hudson.

I legitimately think that McDonalds deserves landmark status. It just feels so iconic as the last stand-along McDonalds in Manhattan.

^ That's dumb. You are also wrong. It's not the "last stand [alone] McDonald's in Manhattan. There's at least one I know of on W 125 St in Morningside Heights / Manhattanville.

At the very least this McDonalds deserves a toast for its role in 'Supersize Me'.

As a tribute to the McDonalds, I took a pic of it, and... AND... got a coffee from it. Figured I'd have to step into this landmark of a McDonalds until it finally meets its bludgeoning death. From its ashes, will grow a superior tower. One that does not give people diabetes.

So while Mickie D's might not be selling coke in the future, there will be plenty of coke use by the business men who will be in 50 Hudson. Have to stay on top in America!

^ I'm surprised that it's still open, I thought it was supposed to have been shuttered by now.

Haven't been in there in a couple of months (and probably won't ever again. The bathroom was from hell). But they were supposed to be closed by the end of the year.

McDonald's filed a notice with the state at the end of September announcing that it plans to lay off all 65 employees at the location by the end of the year.

Maybe something was worked out with Related for a little extension. And people didn't have to get laid off before the holidays.

BlackRock Said to Be in the Market for New NYC Headquarters
Largest money manager said to seek 1 million square feet
Firm may be a fit for new building, such as Hudson Yards tower

David M Levit
January 13, 2016

Quote:
BlackRock Inc., the world’s largest money manager, has taken the first steps toward finding a new headquarters in New York because it expects to outgrow its two offices close to Park Avenue, a person with knowledge of the plans said.

The firm has issued a request for proposals to real estate brokers to help search for about 1 million square feet (93,000 square meters), said the person, who asked not to be named because the matter is private. BlackRock may also wind up staying where it is, the person said.

A deal for 1 million square feet would be among the largest for a New York company in the past couple of years and would make BlackRock a candidate to anchor one of Manhattan’s newest skyscrapers. Towers are under construction or planned at the Hudson Yards development zone on the far west side, at the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan and on Midtown’s east side.

There are also large-enough vacancies in existing buildings, such as at 4 Times Square and in 1271 Avenue of the Americas, the former Time & Life Building, that might accommodate the firm.

“A firm like BlackRock, looking for a million square feet at once, should have the brokerage community as well as the development community salivating,” said Aaron Jodka, senior manager for market research at CoStar Group Inc., a research firm that tracks office leasing. “A big credit tenant -- investors want that.”

“In anticipation of our current campus lease expiring in 2023, we are prudently planning for our long-term real estate needs in New York City,” said Olivia Offner, a BlackRock spokeswoman, declining to comment further.
BlackRock’s current New York offices, at 55 E. 52nd St., a building known as Park Avenue Plaza, and 40 E. 52nd St., have about 700,000 square feet combined, Offner said.

Funny how they took off all the Mc Donald's signage, put a lot of printed notice of "closed" in all the windows, but didn't turn off the "Open 24 hrs" sign
