Marina101&106 are not cheap crap designs. Many cities would be proud to have them as their pinnacle.

^^ They're not bad, well, marina 101's top is a ripoff of another tower but the proportions look pretty good. For towers like princess tower and any others in that style if the cladding is good then even if the shape of the building is not good it'll still look fine. Example is the marina crown lowrise (well, actually 200m )

The thing is construction though, costs have gone way up which means the ones with a simple box shape will get built since they're the cheapest to build. This means towers like the torch, princess tower, marina 106, etc. Also the cladding will have to be crap which is disastrous for this style of tower.
Ultramodern ones like the pentominium can get away with cheap cladding more easily but they're expensive to build because of their structure.

Crap cladding on princess tower

Cladding started on the torch, we'll see how it looks like soon when more is on

Is it just me or is Princess Tower thicker than the two neighboring towers? Looks like it on the pic above and here as well:

By the way, malec, what's the tower rising to the left of the marina crown?

According to people on SSC the aliens landed at the infinity site yesterday (foundation poured )

Also the aliens recently landed at the marina 101 site as well.

Next will be elite residence. Don't know how long away they are from pouring the foundation there since nobody has taken a picture for ages!
Then in about a year the foundations for the pentominium, marina 106 and maybe damac heights could be done.

Yes! I like the design of Infinity. Really basic but modern design. I hope the facade isn't cheap looking because it looks nice in the renderings.

The pentominium looks very tall in this picture. It reminds me of certain views of Sears tower when I was in Chicago. You might have a tower in front, then another ;arger one behind, then the massive Sears behind that and you can see them all. This tiered effect makes towers look really impressive I think.

BTW rumours are that marina sky towers didn't get approved with the current design

... only rumours. Maybe they will just change the position of the shorter tower.

Woah! Nice render. What building is that with the random facade in the foreground?

^^ Don't think it's 300m though. I recon 260m.

By the way, the torch has reached a first setback.

Why is it that the cores are built at almost the same height as the floors. Is it cheaper than building the core 5+ stories above the floor they're currently working on?

Admittedly my experience is rather old (haven't worked on core walls in high rise construction since mid70's) but I'd think it's all to do with scheduling. Accessing the system constructing the cores is difficult & the larger the differential, the degree of difficulty providing access & services increases significantly. We'd normally be 3-5 levels above the current floor being prepared except when core wall pattern changed. We'd accelerate to being 7-8 levels above to give us time to change configuration without hindering those forming up the floor.

Getting updates isn't that easy since they won't just let you take pictures. You have to enter another tower, go up a few floors, then do it.

I don't know if you can see but the core and the main walls are poured in one go. The same technique is used for 23 marina and the al attar tower.

Anyway, here are some pictures from today from Imre

Interesting.
By night, it looks like an enclosed construction site.
