Yes what a wonderful change. One thing good about it is if you are in the circle those waterfalls block out the traffic noise.

Not to nitpick but the current Columbus Circle does not look like that with the N,E,W,S markers. The Columbus Circle Compass is a proposal by a WNY member.

How the circle looks today.

Only when they're turned on. It seems like nine months out of the year, they're off.

Btw, are they turned on yet? We are clearly out of the danger of frost.

No, I'm pretty sure the compass exists, atleast from a taxi perspective.

The biggest improvement to Columbus Circle was getting rid of that hulking New York Coliseum. I can remember when there was a homeless "village" right outside the building.

To me, things actually looked less crowded in the old pictures.

Landscape Architecture had an article about CC recently (Feb?) and that it is quite successful, both with critics and park users. Certainly an improvement over what was there.

Absolutely. Time Warner Center and the redesign of the circle are great improvements. I passed by here everyday to catch the 1&9 at the 59th st. station and saw the transformation take place. It serves as a much more appropriate entranceway to Central Park.

^ That one was to be a world's tallest I believe. Don't remember the exact numbers.

This one, I believe this was a proposal from the 80's, was to be 135-stories, rising 1,535 ft.
