Diskojoe - Getting High In Houston

I know it has been a minute since my last thread. Ive been kinda busy and am actually still busy with lots of photo editing. I think my back log is a few hundred deep at this point. been doing some traveling too and I plan to make a thread for that trip once the back log is completed but for now I wanted to share some of the new stuff I have from around Houston. More coming soon! Got Austin and the hill country coming up for the next thread.

Some beats for your viewing pleasure....

Thanks Steve. Actually that was at a night club but I could see why you thought theater. Classy looking place. Sound was good too.

Very cool looking night club... I love when they reuse grand old interior spaces for that kind of thing. An enjoyable set of shots... thanks for sharing!

Nice set of Houston. Those clubs don't look too popular, great mood and color in this one:

Intriguing mix of editing techniques too. Good stuff.

if you look at the picture of the stair case you can tell that the facades and antique details are actually fake. The columns are only in the front and have metal bars behind them. but it looks nice.

Glad you like the edits. The club was kinda slow that night. I was rather dissapointed cause they called me to come take pics of the vibrant atomsphere. Then I show up and there are only like 20 people there. I ended up leaving around midnight after showing up at 10:30.

Wow! Fabulous pictures.
The empty nightclub can have a better atmosphere than a crowded one, on pictures anyway.
I love the way you edit your photos. Great!

Joe, I assumed it was an old theater that had been repurposed as a nightclub. I have seen that done before. Grand old banks, grand old churches, & grand old theatres make grand nightclubs. Anyway, I didn't realize it was fake. They did a good job----or maybe you did a good job, because it appears to have a lot of atmosphere.

Great set, Joe. I always wondered how you got that sort of "toxic" look to your night shots. I always figured you changed the white balance setting and desaturated the shot, something like that. You do a good job of representing Houston.

Maybe they can really jack up the rent at the Houston House if they could ever fill all those surface lots with something useful.

Thanks. I would have preferred for some people to show up. it was pretty dead that night.

Honestly, I did not realize how much of the facade was fake until I got home and was editing photos. Its only really obvious on the picture of the stair case.

Just really long exposures and some careful saturation.

S'all good.

Club was really nice. Good sound too. My boy runs a dubstep weekly there. but in Houston it can be hard to get people to come out to events. The Molly's pub around the corner was packed. But main street is not what it used to be.

hell ya it is!!!! That one has been tearing it up on flickr. But I cant take all the credit for that one. My friend andrew set that one up as he was putting my camera on his gitzo tripod. But the editing is obviously me.
