It'd be a shame of Frost ever sells and the branding changes on that building...the owl will lose its eyes.

What a wasted opportunity for something much taller with such a prominent location. It's not a horrible building but it's nothing to write home about. The glass is the only thing that saves it but as others have said, it would be more at home outside of DT in say the Domain for example.

I was in Houston the other day and went through DT via I45. It would be nice if we could just have one real substantial and tall office tower instead of these stubby nubs. Even a 600 footer would make a huge impact on the skyline. Frost may be over 500 feet but that's only because of the crown. If it wasn't for that then it wouldn't be any taller than our other tallest office buildings.

One huge ditto! I don't need to add a thing, I feel exactly the same way.

I think Frost is a tenant, but I may be wrong about that. Either way, they are not likely to go anywhere soon. I have often wondered whether the building would still resemble an owl without the bank logos.

The only tenant I know of is PlainsCapital who are leasing the 10th floor and one of the ground floor retail spots for a retail branch.

Well, it's 516 feet to the crown, but the mechanical penthouse goes all the way up to 442 feet - so technically it would still be our tallest office building. And even to that point without the crown, only the W, 360 and The Austonian would be taller today.

I really like the color and the facade is nice, but it looks like it got hit with a weed wacker and the top is laying around somewhere. Every time I see it I wish I could hide it with more skyscrapers.

I agree. All it needs is a good doubling or tripling in height and some kind of more distinct edge around the top. I don't even think it needs a crown, just more height and less of a chopped off appearance.

I wasn't considering the penthouse I guess because I was lumping it in with the crown but your right that it would still be the tallest office building. I was just considering the top occupied floor which if I remember correctly is at 400 feet or so. Technically roof height of One American and 101 Congress. All things considered it's still not very tall when compared to other cities including smaller ones. Tulsa comes to mind with their 600 footer office building. Even Des Moines has a 630 foot office building.

You would think by now there would be enough incentive whether it's a major company or just the need for a sizable amount of office space to have a substantial sized tower built in DT Austin. Maybe the tower rendering that is supposedly slated for the UT property at 6th and Lavaca will be our best chance as it looks like it could be office.

This is what I mentioned about the Colorado looking a lot like 5th and Colorado. They should have just been one building.

Just one or two more floors and all of Frost would have reflected. Nice pic. I don't hate this building.

This one is completed. The first tenant moved in this month.
