I went there this weekend.

Great space, good theaters. I have been waiting for a movie theater that serves food close to the Pearl for a long time! (Yes, there’s Mission theater, but by the time second-run movies make it there, I’ve usually already seen them. Plus, the food is a little greasy for me...)

It’s a bit pricey, but not any worse than the comparable Cinetopia. Yes, it’s more expensive than Laurelhurst & Mission Theater, but we already have those. I’m glad that I now have an alternative to pizza and beer if I want it...

I love the fact that they run indie movies, now that Fox Tower has turned mostly mainstream ...

Well at least Shanghai will be getting another nice building. Lol...although it'd look nicer in Portland.

5-6 stories is not exactly awe-inspiring. The current limit is 460', so assuming 6 stories (x 12' per floor), you only get an additional 72'.....for a whopping grand total of .......... *drum roll please* .......... yes, 532'. Still 8' shorter than Wells Fargo or Big Pink.

Is it too much to ask to think a little bit bigger?

Thinking big when it comes to buildings and infastructure is not portland's strong suit.

I guess it is too much to ask...IMO i say dump the height restrictions. What the hell are they for? To protect the views? For who? The wealthy few who hide in the west hills? Lame reason...And i know people will complain about the view from the rose garden, which is nice. Then just protect that corridor, and that ALONE. Even if they build a 6-700 ft building it won't block out much of anything if they design it right. I just have a hard time thinking we're going to stunt the upwards growth of our city because of views. But again, this is portland

Snapped this photo today partly because I didn't know what the rectangular depression was for. An engineer coming out of the Fox Tower kindly explained to me that it was the footing for a tower crane. Really wish I would have snapped a shot a few days prior when they had the footings marked out with green and orange spray paint.

They've reached the bottom of the excavation, so the rectangular hole at the center IS for the foundation of the tower crane. They'll start pouring the concrete for this and some of the other footings on Friday, and the crane is scheduled to go up on the 10th and 11th.

I think she's on Alder now, in either the block of carts across from the Galleria or the block west of that.

I've noticed there are a lot more food carts now, all over Portland... NE Portland, SE Portland, 82nd, everywhere! Makes me wonder if years ago the city banned them all or something, or had some sort of "Food Cart Euthenasia" program that was overturned recently?

Food carts are cool - they are something I love about vibrant downtowns.

About the park block excavation, all I can say is, I saw it recently (from the library Smart Park) and, man, that's a BIG hole!

I think Portland is one of the few cities that allows the carts. I would imagine some places would seem them as a "blight" but I'm assuming Portland sees them as an opportunity for small businesses and an easy way of adding vibrancy and active streetscapes especially on otherwise dead surface parking lots.

Theres a good Japanese cart in the Galleria lot with a decent sized bento meal for $5.

For a bit, the local restaurants were trying to get an ordinance passed to eliminate the food carts. They claimed it was unfair competition since the carts didn't have to abide by the same standards and requirements that a physical restaurant does.

I'm glad they are around...I have several places on a list I can go for lunch and not spend more than $5. Before I realized how great the carts really are, my list consisted of Subway and McDonalds.
