I rode my bike downtown today for some photos of the skyline, but most of the vantage points didn't include a view of the crane. I'll probably go back again sometime this week or next weekend for some different spots. I stopped at St. Ed's on the way downtown, rode the boardwalk, hit up the Rainey Street area, finally saw the bike sculpture over by the Four Seasons Residences, then rode the trail and checked out the new hike & bike expansion they did with a boardwalk under the Congress bridge (north shore). I took the trail over to the west side of downtown to check the views over by Lamar I'd been wanting to get and then took a few from the pedestrian bridge. My last stop was going to be the Zilker Clubhouse, but there was some event going on there, so I had to settle for the "secret" skyline spot. Just before you get to the gates of the Zilker Clubhouse, there's a little trail that goes off into the woods. It winds around a bit and then opens up into a clearing with a little pavilion that must have been covered at some point. The view isn't as good as the Clubhouse one since the river isn't visible, and the trees don't allow a full skyline view, but it was better than nothing since I'd rode all the way over there.

Here's the best crane photo I could find without walking over there and taking a picture myself.

Wow, that's awfully close to the UT system HQ. It could be just the angle of the picture but If I were working on that floor right next to it, might be a bit unnerving.

That would make for an excellent fire escape from the UT HQ building if it was necessary. Break a window and climb on to the boom.

I remember how close the crane was for Ashton to 100 Congress next to it. They were really close.

Yea I remember as well, very close indeed. Though the difference is that crane was aimed directly at 100, it appears in the other picture that the crane is nearly bumping into the UT system hq and it's not even pointing right at it.

They've started pouring the foundation along the south end of the site near 6th so I think this can be moved from Site Prep to Under Construction.

Here's a permit for closing streets around the site for work on the Mat foundation. The night time photo a couple posts back shows the Mat foundation work.

Nobody really buys its unless its a desirable material. I believe here it was all clay and shale so nobody will buy it. A lot of excavation contractors in town own land off 183 and Hergotz rd where they dump it and use a dozer to spread it. All this land is in the Colorado River flood plain so there is not much better use for it.

The best use of that land is to leave it alone. There's a reason why flood plains exist and that is to take in the water when the river floods. Dumping in that area has ramifications for how the river handles flood water both upstream and downstream.

I was wondering where it got dumped. This would be it.

They have started pouring. They have Coloado closed and as I passed by I saw a bunch of cement trucks and two tube things hanging down into the pit.
