In conjunction with the HONDA Edmonton INDY July 23-25, RACE WEEK EDMONTON will be promoting and providing fun, family, and grassroots motorsport orientated events leading up to the actual INDY. From solo events to BBQs to show and shines and even a soap box derby, it will bring a much needed energy and spirit to the City prior to the actual INDY.

Photos from todays media launch... watch the news for more info and maybe even a familiar face/car...

HUGE media turnout, nice work Dick

New grandstand map:

http://www.edmontonindy.com/files/EI...%20NEW7(1).pdf

I like the idea of more RV parking but removing the grandstand from turns 1 through 3 sucks! Having marshaled turn 3 before, that area is tremendously exciting.

It also provided very good views of 4-6.

While you still have a good view of the course, you now essentially have stands only on the main straight.

argh

^ I don't like that at all. We always sat between turn 1 and 2. They were some of the best seats.

Kind of a strange decision - that said, the Turn 1 grandstand tickets were the most expensive. Sat there the first year I went to the event, since then I've sat between 12 and 13 and loved it. From there I can see passes at turn 10, into turn 11 and for the stock cars out of turn 12.

The first couple years of the event there was a grandstand where there's now RV parking between 2 and 7 - still don't get why they took that out, there's good passing there at times and EVERYBODY takes a turn spinning out into the infield. It's fun to walk around to 7 and 8 and watch the stock cars bounce off the curbs.

That being said, there's not a bad viewpoint anywhere. Now if only we could get some rain this year and not have it be the hottest weekend of the year...

booo. We sat in the second to top row in the grandstand at corner 2-3 for every single grand prix. It was fantastic.

Not only do we loose what I would consider seating on the best corner, we may loose the amazing view we had from row2. I'll be pissed if we have to sit with the rest of the commoners down low.....maybe I don't go this year.

^^

That grandstand was the Mac's zone with cheap general admission tickets. It was 3/4 full on race day if i recall (i was facing it at turn 6 one yr and 3 another). I can attest to 3 being incredibly fun for we got briefed as such:

Cascar coming at our barrier:

"run away from car"

Atlantics:

"duck and cover against barrier"

Champ:

"pray"

Province gives Indy $300,000
Opposition asks why government reversed original policy

Trish Audette, Keith Gerein And Gordon Kent
Edmonton Journal

Friday, May 14, 2010

The Honda Indy Edmonton is getting an extra $300,000 boost from the provincial government that could help push the cash-strapped race closer to the break-even point.

The funding, from the government's "other initiatives" lottery fund, comes on top of $500,000 from Travel Alberta that was previously committed...
