Everybody!!!

If you can, go to the Boise State-Miami (OH) game this Saturday. Especially, if you can, make it out to the pregame and enjoy a fine performance by the Blue Thunder Marching Band! If you can't make it out this weekend, see if you can during any of the other home games' pregames.

It appears Boise State is looking to partner with a hotel development company to build an on-campus hotel.

Very interesting.

Have you also learned that secret from the river; that there is no such thing as time? That the river is everywhere at the same time, at the source and at the mouth, at the waterfall, at the ferry, at the current, in the ocean and in the mountains.-Hermann Hesse

Substantial increase in enrollment this year:

http://news.boisestate.edu/update/20...ore-diversity/

Looks like the incoming classes are getting better and better. This is great news for the university. One of the most interesting things in this article is the increase in out-of-state student population from 7% to around 20% in the last 10 years. Also, graduate students are becoming a huge population on campus. In terms of becoming a national university, an increase in graduate enrollment is a staple.

hopefully they'll be smart about this hotel and make it a few stories tall soas to not take up valuable real estate.

they want to eventually put seats over the top of the office/locker room complex. i don't think these new seats will connect to the east and west stands, but that could always change.

original renderings when it was first proposed

That's what I had seen the last couple years, why I was confused. I guess I can understand doing it in phases like this though.

Also, any explanation of why the angled stands instead of curved like the south endzone?

If I remember right, the building codes have changed since Bronco Stadium was constructed, and the pitch is too steep (the stadium itself is simply grandfathered in) so they can't build off the original blueprints. Thus I guess the architects figured completely changing the NEZ design would be the least-awkward way of expanding. Though the actual footprint of the athletic facilities is different than the rendering, and what's being built almost seems to suggest that they've returned to the original curved design. I could be wrong on that though.

Ah, that makes sense. I guess I'll be avoiding those seats then, the more steeped seats allow the stands to hug the field more. Better views.

i've heard the same thing. however, i have a very difficult time believing that.

the upper decks in the new chicago bears stadium are every bit as steep as bronco stadium. and i've seen other, brand-new stadiums with upper decks at a similar angle. the upper deck in comiskey park is even steeper, i think.

it's more likely that boise state is just building what they can afford. if they could afford to do it right and build the vision they had, they'd probably do it.

it's really a shame that boise state can't afford to do what TCU did -- gut the stadium and build from scratch, ideally keeping the north end zone mostly open to keep the view. a team named the broncos deserve to play in a horseshoe.

State Education Board Mulls Two Big Boise State Projects
'The university is seeking to establish a presence in downtown Boise.'

by George Prentice @georgepren

When the Idaho State Board of Education convenes Wednesday, Dec. 12 for a two-day session in Coeur d'Alene, members will be asked to consider two very big -- but little talked-about -- property deals for Boise State University.

With a price tag of $1.65 million, Boise State is looking for permission to buy 8,800-square-feet of commercial space at 301 Capitol Boulevard in Boise's BODO District.

that's great news! But it sucks that they'll be right next to that ugly Hampton ... they already have a building down on Main st. right next to the Bouquet.

That's currently SSPA's building. I think it's smart to move some sort of business connection downtown. Hopefully they keep the Alaska building (next to the Boquet) and move into this one as well. The more exposure, the better.
