Hmm... seems I was the only one who didn't know that the River Tower had been upped to 27 stories.

By the way, guys... did we ever get an official height on the Residences? I was guessing around 80 meters.

^I'm pretty sure it was 79 meters. I didn't know River Tower was upped. The site still has floor plans only up to the 23rd.

I hear you Kitchen Guy. The street portion is already settling and the snow plows have bashed chunks of granite curb off, too. The actual sidewalks haven't been patched, only the old portions which haven't been redone are still a mess. By the way, why doesn't anyone build sidewalks with the rounded steel curb anymore? I'd rather have just a plain concrete and steel curb than some cutesy "period" brick.

Oh, and the southern-most building of Al's is being ripped down. The garage begins...

mglan80, I was pretty close to the Barclays/Juniper office & garage project before I moved a year ago. I've been following the construction through your photos. Any new ones?

^You lived close, or worked close?

The photos: I've been lax in getting some shots around town. I've been busy every weekend since January. I'll try to get some Sunday; WSFS Bank Center has already topped out!

I actually worked quite a bit on the project during the design phase. However it apears that, judging from the last rendering a saw, the design of the office building was dumbed down a lot.

^^Yeah, dumbed down how? You have to explain that, there's too many curious minds on this thread for a vague statement like that. Also, what was the firm? I'd like to update the first page of this thread with that.

By the way, welcome to the thread. Did you move out of state, or just out of town?

I worked for the architectural firm (Moeckel Carbonell) that designed both the garage and the office building. We weren't unfortunately the "architect of record" for the office building portion. The developer (Pettinaro) has an in house design firm that took our design and ( again I'm just going by the one rendering I saw) took what was a very contemporary, yet responsive, design and tried to make it more in keeping with the turn of the century brick industrial aesthetic of the adjacent Juniper headquarters building (and that god awful AAA building) It's quite sad for me because our original client had a very progressive notion of what this part of town could be. Only to have a schlock developer decide that progress means pushing architecture forward into the 19th century Anyway, I don't blame the architect, I am quite sure they were directed by Mr. Pettinaro himself to do the dumbing deed. Anyway, I moved out of town, far out of town but I still hold hope for the garage, which if it stays true to the original design will be a far more interesting building than the office building.

...at least they they didn't put a clock tower on it....I hope.

^I've never heard there was a change, and I certainly hope that's not the case. The steel that's up looks alot like the original design, but then I did see a little mock up of brick and sandstone (or limestone) when the site was being cleared. I guess we'll all find out when the cladding starts going up.

Here's a photo of the Blue Cross Blue Shield building on Delaware Ave.

Also, there's a few new photos on the WSFS Bank Center thread.

South of Town

Anyone know what the steel structure going up south of town? As your take southbound 13 out of Wilmington, it's kind of behind that new DMV there. This is in the Minquadale/Wilmington Manor area.

Ryukyova

once apon a time I did a lot of work with Meockel Carbonell. Harold Judefine (sp?) and a woman who's name escapes me. Long curly dark hair, married to a newscaster, she left MC to work for Christiana Hospital. Linda, I think.

This was back when (the 90's) they did all of Diamond State Telephone's work with Paragon for M&E. A great bunch to work with.

Speaking of buildings by DMV's, I was amazed to see what happened to the old Wilmington DMV site on the parkway. It's looking nice.

Anybody know what this is?

Just an update: The site for the Ships Tavern garage is being cleared. The Renaissance Center project has taken down the rear of the buildings on Market and 4th and has generally cleared the site. I still like this project, and I'm almost glad that the parking podium has been pushed down under street level (on the Market side anyways).

The garage across from AAA has really popped up!

Oh, the joys of precast concrete! As my father would say "goes together like tinker toys"

if you want to see the pieces staged for assembly, they are in the parking lot before the outlets on the riverfront.
