More welcoming than Lyon (where I also used to live), yes definitely.
I came because I am very interested in dense, historic cities. But over the time I realized it was not my thing. I also want to be able to hit the road and go to the large variety of landscapes we have in North America. I need the wilderness in my backyard, not as something you have to plan for your holidays once every year. Many European cities are nice, but it is just a question of preference for me. They lack this impression of "freedom" we have in Canada and the US. Something I wouldn't have realized if I hadn't spent 3 years here, but now it is clear.
