The word you're looking for, mon ami, is consistency. It's been the bugbear of this team ever since the lockout. The radio guys mention it at least once every couple of games, all season long. The only things the Flames are consistent in is their inconsistency.

Certainly. I think I've said that last sentence many times myself.

I officially hate shootouts... hockey is a team sport and should not be won by a single individual.

Oh well Buffalo had no business winning this game but I guess that is bound to happen when you're missing Markov, Campoli, Gill (illness), White, Kostitsyn, Cammalleri and that Engqvist and Spacek didn't finish the game due to injuries.

Jets win 5 to 2 over the Bolts.

And the best fake dive of the year award goes to Stamkos!

Did the Jets get a penalty on that?

Really low frame rate so it's hard to tell what may have happened. It looks like he might have been speared right in the heart.

These hacks and slashes happen so fast they are often missed by the human eye so sometimes you need really high speed film to see where the injuries occur, as is the case with the Sedin twins. Luckily they have a high pain threshold and incredible resiliency and are back in the play in no time flat.

Yes, that must be it.

Signing Markov to a big contract didn't stop him from being a top 5 D-man in the NHL.
He actually had his best years, after he signed the first big contract.

Last contract was signed in 2007 (4 years length)...
2007-2008 was a career year for him with 58 pts in 82 games (he can't stay healthy right?)
2008-2009 was even better with 64 pts in 78 games.
He maintained the same pace in 2009-2010 when he came back from the freak tendon cut with 34 pts in 45 games (on pace for 62 pts).

Speaking of Markov... he's did train with the team on Monday (non-contact jersey). It's good to see him back with the boys.

Yeah, unfortunate.

But, on the bright side, the Flames finally have a GM who finally understands having young players in the lineup is a good thing!

Yes they did, and it was an absolute dive. Even the Lightning fans were calling him out on it.

The other "performance of the night" was when the Jets got their second goal. Slater was in front of the net, and when the shot was taken from the point, you all of a sudden see Roloson make this very dramatic fall as the puck goes into the net. He claimed that Slater's skate knocked him off balance, however when you look at the replay, he barely touched him. Roloson was "upset" that the goal wasn't reviewed. And again, even the Lightning fans were calling him out on that dive. He's known for his dramatic dives, apparently.

And wow has it been fun to watch. I'd rather lose with a bunch of young guys who are trying, and learning, than lose with a bunch of overpaid spoiled lazy players.

Going to the Flames - Senators game tonight, hoping for a good result, both teams seem equally crappy right now.

How low we've fallen...

Worth observing that making the finals seems to be death for Canadian teams lately. How's Vancouver doing this season?

Really? You're going to compare two fluke runs to the presidents cup winners?

The Canucks will finish 1 or 2 in the west.

Ottawa's run was by no means a fluke, they were one of the top teams in the league for many years and captured the Presidents Trophy in that time at least once (I would check, but I have better things to do).

Calgary's run may have been a bit of a "Cindarella" run, but there's no such thing as a fluke run in the Stanley Cup playoffs, the best of 7 format ensures this.

Sure, but they won't get back to the final, at least not with Luongo in net.

Maybe, but yet another first round exit is even more likely.

We're three for three on this scoreboard, what evidence do you have to the contrary? Let's see if the Canucks can start playing better than .500 hockey before making any grand predictions.

As a friend (Canucks fan) pointed out to me yesterday, if Calgary wins a mere 2 games, they're tied with Vancouver. With equal games played. Freaking Calgary. This team is absolutely dreadful, on paper and on the ice, and everyone knows it - and they're playing on par with the President's Trophy winners.

I'm aiming for that Yakupov kid with this kind of record, not sure about you guys. Quarter of the season already gone, almost...

Despite Sutter not being GM anymore, I still expect The Flames to trade their first round pick this year for a 30-something defenseman, plugger, or grinder.
