The advertising of Old Navy at the Regent Mall is up outside the space. It's official! Opening in the summer.

I see on the retail nb facebook page that work has also started in the former sears space.

Also was by the cyber security park and see that steel has reached the fourth floor.

Wonder if/when a tower crane will be going up for the new office tower on regent? Assuming there likely will be given it will be 6 floors.

- Vertical Ascent Indoor Adventure Park in Fredericton over 32,000 sq ft

- Over 30 ft tall, 2 levels, zip lines, and a kids course. Over 50 Elements!

Does the old sears space meet these requirements?

The 30 ft tall would be the only concern, however it could work if there were renos to the roof to accommodate. The area is OK as the old Sears is approx 85K sq ft and Vertical would only require 40% of that.

Sears is being gutted. It's a massive space with the false ceiling gone.

A draft parking master plan has been released by the city outlining the parking concerns and ideas for the next decade or so.

I'm just skimming over it, but one thing they highlighted is a need for a new (or expanded) parking garage in the near-immediate future. One suggestion is to rebuild the Kings Place garage and make sure it has more slots than Kings Place is looking for. Basically the plan is suggesting we need at least 100 parking spots in the short term to match current needs.

Another element they are pointing out is how the NB Government is the biggest parking user who basically gives out free parking passes, making it harder for the city to recoup the parking costs. Government use is also spilling over into residential streets around the legislature, causing issues there as well.

Maybe they should tear down Centennial building and put up a parking garage? (No not a serious suggestion. )

I was just about to post that. Basically, Smythe street is closed for the summer. Look for alternative routes. Between the work on top of the hill around Parkside Drive, and work at the bottom of the hill for the new Victoria circle, Smythe is gonna be closed off.

Wilsey road won't be too bad, nor Queen street for the most part.

The Smythe/King/Brunswick/etc intersection won't be closed during construction, according to the city. It'll be slower of course, but it'll still be open.

So it's only the part farther up that is fully closed.

I'm really hopeful for that project. Ever since the city released the Union Street Secondary Plan more than a decade ago, I've been eager to see well-thought-out density and proper urbanization on and around Union.

That's why it's been really disappointing to see that the attempts to urbanize Union Street over the past decade have been varying degrees of misfires: the vinyl-clad box with front-facing parking in a prime space at the southwest corner of Union and St. Mary's Street; the bizarrely fierce community pushback against putting up townhouses along Union as part of the Southview development; the poor-quality build and use of space of the Sunnyview Apartments property at Union and Neill; the ordinary suburban residential development to be built along Station Road...

I would love to finally, FINALLY see Union Street get the urban treatment it deserves. A well-designed mixed-use property at Devon's main gateway intersection would be a great way to start.
