If you export a SketchUp design to another program you can create a pretty decent rendering. I don't understand how they accept a straight Google SketchUp design as a rendering.

True. They even have free programs and plugins available, as well as inexpensive ones. There is no excuse to not have a real rendering in this day and age.

Sure there are. Renders are only really used for sales and promotional material and this project has done zero marketing yet. Good renders like the ones done by norm li or adhoc are expensive when you consider the amount of work that goes into them. That's why there is usually a big difference between a render the architect has created vs one that's been done by a render studio.
