The top of crescent hill isn’t a particularly good spot for multi family. Despite being close to downtown, it’s not particularly easy to get downtown by walking or cycling. Not great for traffic access either.

There’s a lot of places that should be upzoned first.

An easily solved problem - just pave some paths, build some new ones and some steps. And who cares? Just upzone it and let people build if they want.

To do that, you would have to massively overpay, especially considering many of the owners are already rich. To get a good sized block would probably cost $75-100M based on current assessed land value, unless you were willing to wait decades. And even then, you might get outbid by private individuals who are trying to get lots to combine for their mansion.

You both couldn’t be more wrong. You can easily do multi family in Crescent Heights. I guess you don’t get downtown much, as thousands of people walk and cycle downtown every day from that area.

You don’t need a whole block to do a multi family development. He wasn’t suggesting a re-create if East Village, all he suggested was putting up multi family developments along Crescent Road. Two of any large houses can be taken out to put a 30 unit building up easily. With the kind of use you would get from Crescent Road the units would be worth a lot of money. It’s not rocket science.

Funny, one could say the same of you if not even more.

The same could be said for both of you, the difference is you’re the one always whining about people not contributing enough, which makes your posts all the more ironic.

It doesn't work that way. If you have the money then you can build there. You know, sometimes life isn't fair. You should go have some cookies and milk.

Working in the design industry the thing you have to come to grips with really quit is that money and taste don't always go together.

Well thank god it isn't up to you then.

Life shouldn't be ruled by how much money someone has. Look at the moron who's running the U.S. Lots of money but no brains.

I don't really have a problem with these houses, it's not really any different than the celebrated 100 yr old mansions in Mt Royal. Sure the styling might seem less impressive, but Calgarians might think differently in 75 yrs.

I meant along the lines of, crescent hill isn’t urgently required for huge density increases that mass multi family conversion would create. In that there are two natural barriers between it and the heart of the city (the bluff and the river). As long as we don’t want too many more bridges across the river, we should stick to developing more density where those natural barriers already have solutions.
