Yea, that's cool. Could be what Metrotown mall or Surrey Centre look like some day...

the original renders showed a glass roof - i wondered what happenned to that

the original renders looked much sleeker and better than what is the end product - but i don't mind the end product - just typical od developers with big promises and lofty ideas to end up with the watered down version

I also seem to recall much more patio space in one of the renders as well.

Either the developer failed to execute
or the developer lied

it looks like the movie theatre wasn't part of the original plan and the theatre space ate up the planned patios

Not until the streetview car parked in my neighbourhood starts moving after a two-week-plus break.

starbucks has it's signage up but none of its neighbouring stores seem to have anything being done - the theatre is making progress from what you can see - they have those movie poster signs up along the one wall

You know what's the ultimate eyesore? The existence of that ugly steel-structured parkade down at Front Street. The "storefront" just below that parkade at Front Street looked a bit similar to the DTES.

There needs to be more effort to revitalize the area around Columbia St. Skytrain station. Now that the Plaza 88 is coming along really nicely, I'm concerned that more people will focus more on New West Station area, leaving the Columbia St. station area more neglected. What do you think?

Big changes since my days spent in and around New West...the grittiness was intense.
Whatever happened to the hotel Garfield? Is the Paramount strip club still plying its trade?

Pizza Garden is nothing like Pizza Hut. It is self-described "wood stone fired Neapolitan style" pizza, and quite good. I often go to the one on Smithe.

The pizza garden was having 2-for-1 slices in April, a little chinsy on the toppings when I was there, but high quality and great crust, much better than Megabite or Pizza Hut... They fire the pizzas in a big open stone oven that keeps the store nice and toasty...

Still a lot to do on this project, lots of the interior is u/c, probably some station redesign coming, they're pouring the Tim Hortons plaza today; and of course there's the 8th street corner plaza as well as the future 4th residential tower west of the overpass which haven't even been finalized yet... definitely not completed!

Had a look: it's just a temporary mural on plywood, there's a retail space curving around that corner and for some reason it's boarded up atm. Will be windows wrapping right around.
