Thought I'd go back in time again. Here's some smaller cities in upstate NY (the southern tier, mostly near the PA border). These pics are primarily from 2004.
Olean (pop ~ 15,000). St Bonaventure University is nearby.

Elmira (pop ~ 30,000, metro ~ 100,000) The city has had a tough time with many factories closing (my brother's included). Cost of living is low, but jobs are tough to come by.

Cortland (pop~19,000, part of Ithaca metro pop ~ 150,000) SUNY campus helps keep the city afloat as, again, most of the factories have left.

The building with the clock tower burned down - sad loss. But I believe construction has started for a replacement.

Jamestown is in the southwestern corner of upstate New York. It has a population of about 31,000 with about 140,000 in the metro.
