BALTIMORE | Rec Pier Hotel| Redevelopment| Under Construction

The Recreation Pier, famous for its place in the city's history as the "Ellis Island of Baltimore" became well-know once again in 1992 as the location set for the hit TV show Homicide: Life on the Streets. The building has been vacant since the TV show stopped filming in 1999.

Kevin Plank sees Fells Point Rec Pier hotel as an extension of Under Armour

This is a rendering of how the hotel will appear from the exterior when complete. The appearance is based on historic photos of the pier, and is aimed at returning it to how it originally looked when it was built in 1914.

This is a view of the hotel's pool, which will be located on the first level of the end of the pier. Its location will offer sweeping views of the Inner Harbor.

This is view of the pool at the end of the pier shows the pool's bar at left.

This is another view of the pool design slated to be located at the end of the pier which includes cabanas seen at right.

This rendering of the ballroom shows how the 230-person facility will be restored to its original grandeur. The space is out of the Titanic era of rich architectural detailing. It was formerly used as a community recreation center that hosted events such as dances, and was also used as a location set in the movies "Step Up" and "Step Up 2."

This is a rendering of the restaurant being planned for the first floor, which will feature views of Thames Street to give diners a sense of the activity outside the hotel and passerby a view of the hotel's interior.

This is a view of the whiskey bar that's being planned for inside the hotel. It's designed to be a place for quiet, intimate cocktail.

This is the design of one of the 128 rooms that will be located in the hotel. This is a standard room; there will also be larger rooms with additional high-end features.

This is a view of the landscaping that will be done inside and interior courtyard that will run nearly the length of the pier, from the brick head house nearly to the end. Hotel rooms will run down each side of the courtyard, with rooms on each side of the first and second floor looking out either onto the courtyard or the harbor. Larger rooms on the third floor will have views of both the courtyard and the harbor.

This is a floor plan of the Recreation Pier showing how the building will lay out.

The Recreation Pier hotel project in Fells Point will become an extension of the Under Armour Inc brand and a tool for attracting people to the city.

That's how Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank sees his $60 million investment in the conversion of the 100-year-old pier and head house into an "incredibly nice" 128-room hotel. Plank plans to celebrate the groundbreaking of the hotel during a ceremony Wednesday. Plank's privately held real estate company, Sagamore Development Co. LLC, is developing the project, which is expected to be completed in fall 2016.

Pre Construction. The Rec Pier has remained one of the last neglected buildings to be restored in the gentrified Fells Point neighborhood.
