Exactly. The towers are surrounded by a pretty big yard, this is really not that close or disruptive. This tower isn’t even really in society hill proper in my opinion.

I wouldn't call the society hill towers a masterpiece.

^ Really!? We must have very different tastes. Didn't you say a page back that you like One Dock Street enough to steal it from another city. But you don't like the Society Hill Towers?

The NIMBYs who now populate those buildings aside, the Society Hill Towers are the classic embodiment of 1950's modernism and have aged very well. I think they are a fantastic set of buildings and a nice change of pace from the pre-war masonry and modern glass buildings that dominate our skyline.

Society Hill Towers are very masculine looking buildings. They stood well against the test of time and will continue to do so.

When I said that they weren't a masterpiece, I didn't mean that they're ugly. I love them too. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that I prefer them to One Dock Street. But from an urban planning standpoint, the plan of these towers is why the residents are the way they are. They literally live on a hill above everyone else.

If someone wanted to demolish these buildings I would adamantly defend them, but I don't think that the area surrounding them should remain untouched to preserve the sanctity of this "masterpiece."

Based on absolutely nothing, I have a bad feeling that the neighbors are going to be able to kill this thing.

This thing was cleared on April Fool's Day.

Should be starting soon. I'm surprised no one on here noticed.

Why focus on something like that when we can talk about Liberty on the River?

I noticed the zoning permit was issued in February or March but I didn't get around to posting that update. Hopefully work starts this summer. No such luck on 709 chestnut, the toll brothers condo tower and a host of others that have been on the drawing board for months or years.

Sorry, but how can you NOT be excited about LOTR, a project that definitely has a non 0% chance of occurring? They just released new renders today!

I am glad the Society Hill Nimby's seem to be losing their death grip and power between this and the Washington Square tower incorporating Dilworth House. I wish they weren't able to stop Scannapieco's Walnut Street tower!

The nimby's in the Society Hill Towers should be more focused on maintaining their buildings. I have some friends living there and the buildings are crumbling. The floors are shifting and it's been almost a year with no fix in sight. It's fairly disturbing.

This building looks great, hope it gets built quick!

Huh? I find this hard to believe. There is always some amount of settlement with old buildings, but I find it hard to believe the floors are shifting significantly or that the buildings are "crumbling".

Yeah that’s almost certainly not true. There is a big capital project at the Towers now to replace the HVAC, 16 million dollar project. The towers are one of the most well maintained and staffed condo complexes in the city, aging very gracefully.
