DETROIT: The I Will Survive Tour

Bankrupt? Shmakerupt! My bankrupt city can kick your city's a$$.

In all seriousness, this is the last tour of Detroit that I'll be doing for the next little bit... but do stay tuned for my PURE MICHIGAN tour later this week!

It's my hope to truly allow you to see the shreds of dignity and grace that still exist in my hometown... a place that has the resources and bones to take its place as a reborn center of American industry and ingenuity.

Enjoy!

In the words of the late author Elmore Leonard:

"There are cities that get by on their good looks, offer climate and scenery, views of mountains or oceans, rockbound or with palm trees; and there are cities like Detroit that have to work for a living..."

Thanks for viewing.

This view along with the one from the fountain are my favorite Belle Isle views.

You don't often get to see this view of New Center. Is this taken from the Boblo Warehouse? You know, someday with all of the extra transit links planned (and near-construction) for the area, we'll actually see companies buildings some high-rises in the district, again. I mean, with the planned BRT and streetcar linking up at the Amtrak station, which will also be a commuter rail terminus from Ann Arbor and the airport, you're going to have quite the transit hub in this area. There is so much unrealized potential in New Center.

I hope that isn't the finest cleaner I can find in town!

Great thread. I hope Detroit can save it's bones of everything it has and bounce back.

Detroit is still incredibly impressive. Would be crazy amazing if it had been loved more all these years. Better late than never.

Great pics, thanks!

Would you ever consider a tour of the inner suburbs and municipalities? I'd love to get an in-depth look at Dearborn, Livonia, Troy, Royal Oak, Birmingham, etc...

Love this shot...makes me look at Detroit as a city that hasn't lost yet! Still fighting! You can't see all the parking lots or abandoned streets.

All your photos are great!
