How I understand things in the gasoline industry work:

You purchase a contract to take delivery a set amount of fuel. You receive it and then you sell it.

Old contract: 88.0 cents fuel
Old contract expires, you can continue to mark it down: 85.0 cents
New contract comes in substantially higher: 95.0 cents
You want to make some of the margin on the marked down fuel: 96.0 cents

Damn. At these prices Migs might even reconsider leaving his SUV idleing all night!

"It appears the good old days of 80-cents-a-litre gasoline are behind us — at least in Regina.

A number of Regina outlets have posted prices of around $1.02 per litre of regular. There are also listings, on tracking sites, in the range of the mid-80s to 92 cents per litre.

Jason Toews with the Gas Buddy website told CBC News that gas companies don't typically bother making excuses for a price jump, but sometimes blame a spike on shortages.

"Some of it is warranted because there is a changeover from winter gas to summer gas that takes place in March through early May, so there can be a little bit of ... small shortages of gasoline," he said."

sitting at over 1.31 in Vancouver. I don't understand how this works. a barrel is half the cost it was but we're paying the same amount as when it was $100 a barrel?

thought this was interesting. crazy the amount of taxes we pay on gas here!

Today’s price of gas in Metro Vancouver broken down:
•Base price of 83.6 cents per litre
•17 cents per litre TransLink Tax
•10 cents per litre Federal Excise Tax
•8.5 cents per litre Provincial Fuel Tax
•6.67 cents per litre Carbon Tax
•+ 5% GST
= $1.30

Hovering around $1.10 in Vancouver. Just imagine that in Missouri gas is currently around $1.60USD/gallon. Now that's cheap!

Saw 81.9 in Ottawa the other day. The 12 cent difference with Gatineau is the largest gap I've seen in a while.

101.9 in Sault Ste. Marie. Down from 105.9 last month.

189.9/gallon in Sault Michigan but with our dollar as low as it is, it's no longer worth it to fill up on the US side.

That's 71.4 Canadian cents/Litre. It's still pretty worth it, lol. No longer worth it for us though, since it's a 2-hour round trip to the nearest US gas station. I'd burn almost half a tank in the process, and I only use that much a month in the first place.

98.9c per litre in Thunder Bay. 88.2c per litre on the reserve.
