Nelson is a small town of 10 000 residents nestled in the Selkirk Mountains on the shores of Kootenay Lake in British Columbia, Canada.
Despite its small population, the city has a very mature and active downtown core.
It was incorporated in 1897 and has a long industrial past.
For a town of such small size it has a surprisingly number of interesting locations for the urban enthusiast.
The sky is a little hazy in these pics because of forest fires burning nearby at the time.
Starting with the more industrial part of town.

There are many interesting small parks and staircases such as this throughout the town, playing well with its naturally steep topography.

In the summer the evenings are warm and the sun sets late, it is the perfect time to explore and enjoy.

If you ever find your way into the southern BC interior, Nelson is a must see.
Lots of small festivals and mountain biking events in the summer.
