Let's hope it's actually still this design though!

I think it was Spyguy maybe (who else?) who posted a rendering of another, much, much lesser design.......if that one gets built, it would be a major disappointment.....(and I'd be ashamed of VDT if it's still them - though never got an architect name behind it).....

At this point, they might not be testing the soil so much as they're testing to see if there's still any soil left to test.

There's a letter dated October 12, 2016 in the PD that details design changes and restarts the clock. I would guess that a 2017 start is fairly likely.

Perhaps then they could make the project mixed-use.

Maybe they're digging to China to see if they can find some funding?

I've heard a whisper that 808 Wells is dead.

The developer passed away last year, did it have to do with that? Or just weak sales?

Oh man, I was just thinking how quiet things have been regarding that project.
Maybe Moody will buy the land and slap up another POS.

<shudders at the thought>

shhhhh, don't go giving them any ideas, man.

what a bitter double whammy loss-loss that would be.

seriously though, the moody campus is so horrendously terrible, i wonder if that had an effect on this one possibly failing to launch.

I think it probably had more to do with bad karma from demolishing the handsome building that used to stand on that corner.

And I'm sure their response would be "we're spending our money wisely so we can further the Lord's work" but in the process they're ruining a huge chunk of that area building those monstrosities.

The leasing info site at 808wells.com now shows an expired domain name message as well.

They've yanked down the giant massive jumbo 808 Wells billboard across the street from the East Bank Club, and replaced it with a giant massive jumbo Renelle on the River ad, so I don't know what could be bigger sign of doom than that.

RIP 808 Wells. That is a bummer. The roof was stupid but overall it was really good. Shame.

I thought the building was garbage, and not sad by the loss of it. The really sad part (I mean really really sad) is we lost the great building that stood at that corner, and now we are left with another surface lot.

The design had some positive points (the podium was wrapped with active spaces), and some negatives (weird roof), but I would guess a big factor is that the immediate area around it really doesn't support their price point. I mean, seriously, who in their right mind would pay what they were asking to live *across from a gas station* and across from a stale institutional brick wall, on a busy, noisy street sort of on the edge of walkable, but also with horrible traffic congestion. It is a great site for dedicated urban dwellers, but pretty much a horrible site for luxury condos.

And I agree, the fact that they demo'd the existing buildings is extremely frustrating - if those had all been renovated, or even just preserved the facade's, it would have helped keep the area better. I think if they'd integrated the facades into the building and put the sales center in the existing building, it might have worked better because it would have felt less destitute than it did with just a plain-jane temporary sales center holding the corner.
