SANDY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - It's an idea that will change Sandy City's skyline forever. Three towers, one as high as 30 stories, are being proposed for the city's commercial area.

The Sandy Proscenium project would be built near 200 West and 10000 South.

The first phase of development, during which the first tower will go up, is targeted for 2011.

The project will entail hotels, office space, condos and small shops.

The planning commission will meet for its first site review of the project next week. Sandy’s building height restrictions will also have to be amended.

Thanks for the update on that Projects. Contrary to what some might think, I feel this development will definately happen. It might take a few years before all three towers are up, and the design aspect could also change, but it will happen. With the Proscenium Project, there is a very aggressive developer, combined with an aggressive city, available, unencumbered land, and very importantly, "an outstanding location."

The Proscenium, and ABC 4 News.com

Over the past ten years the metro Wasatch has passed many Metro's in population that have for the last century been much larger than the Wasatch. I think that the Wasatch Front will pass many more metro's over the next ten years in population. Many metro's will continue to shrink or be relatively stagnate, while Salt lake surges in importance, both nationally and internationally.

A few days ago, I took a group of people on a drive around the Metro . Two were from D.C., one was from Chicago and another from Iowa. We drove from Gateway, down South Temple, through the East Bench from North to South, along 1300 East, Holliday Blvd., 1700 East, up to and around the new Draper Temple(Corner Canyon), and then up to Suncrest and down into and around Alpine. We also took the Alpine Loop, through Am. Fork Canyon, and then back through Heber Valley and Park City. Needless to say, they were all dumbstruck with the dramatic beauty of the Wasatch Mtn.'s and their close proximity to downtown. None of these people are LDS and all are very intent and excited about moving here.

Southern Metro - Pleasant Grove - Under Construction

Hmmm.... so it looks like this is the third and final design for the new Hotel. I wonder what the updated schedule is for the lifestyle center and other components of this large development.

Featured is the nine-story, 300-suite Embassy Suites Hotel and convention center being developed in Pleasant Grove, Utah, by Mr. John Q. Hammons. Mr. Hammons announced he will develop two more hotels at the site. The three hotels and convention center will be managed by John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts. (Photo: Business Wire)

PLEASANT GROVE, Utah, and SPRINGFIELD, Mo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Bull dozers and dirt diggers will be actively on duty tomorrow at the southeast quadrant of the intersection of I-15 and Pleasant Grove Boulevard in Pleasant Grove, Utah, at the site of Utah Valley’s first Embassy Suites Hotel and adjoining convention center. Mr. John Q. Hammons today announced that Springfield-Mo.-based The Killian Group is the general contractor for the all-suite, luxury, multi-million-dollar project, which represents more than 100,000 gross square feet of meeting space. Several Utah-based subcontractors will collaborate with Killian on the hotel and convention center, both anticipated to open in fall 2009. In addition, Mr. Hammons today announced he expects to build two more hotels within the next one to two years at the same Pleasant Grove development, with the hotel brands to be announced at a later date.

The nine-story, 300-suite Embassy Suites Hotel and convention center and additional two hotels will be owned by Mr. Hammons and managed by Springfield, Mo.-based John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts, the nation’s leading independent builder, developer, owner and manager of upscale, full-service hotels, resorts and suites (www.jqhhotels.com).

“I believe in the growth of Utah Valley. Since we announced plans to develop in Pleasant Grove, I’ve been impressed by the area’s continued economic progression. I see this growth continuing for years to come, affirming my intentions to build more hotels in the area,” said Mr. Hammons, founder, chairman and chief executive officer of John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts.

Mr. Hammons cited his being impressed by the solid demand generators of Brigham Young University and Utah Valley State College, comprising a combined student population of more than 70,000, and their being steady economic influences in Utah Valley.

Representing Mr. Hammons’ entrée into Utah and located about a half-hour’s drive from Salt Lake City International Airport, the development will initially offer more than 100,000 combined square feet of flexible meeting and convention space for Pleasant Grove and surrounding areas. The unique curvature of the Embassy Suites’ tower (12.5°) will give guests throughout the hotel panoramic views of the mountains to the east and picturesque Utah Lake to the west.

“A project of this magnitude requires immense time and financial investments. The design work alone is a significant time commitment, particularly when collaborating with the best in the hospitality industry. It is an honor to work with a developer of Mr. Hammons’ caliber, and we’re grateful that he selected Pleasant Grove as the home for three hotels and a convention center development,” said Mayor Michael Daniels, city of Pleasant Grove.

About the Initial Embassy Suites Hotel Development

To be built with the signature atrium style of John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts, the Embassy Suites – Pleasant Grove Hotel will boast an architectural style that complements the design of the convention center. The hotel will feature a variety of amenities for both business and leisure travelers, while the décor will emit a contemporary flair that invites guests to enjoy the exceptional appointments and outstanding customer service that defines the John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts and the Embassy Suites Hotels brands.

Beautifully decorated to make guests feel at home, each guest suite will feature a private bedroom and spacious living room which will be equipped with two televisions, refrigerator, wet bar, microwave oven, coffee maker, two telephones with data ports, high-speed Internet access, spacious work desk and in-room safe boxes. Guests may enjoy a luxurious open atrium with a water feature. The hotel will offer 24-hour room service, same-day dry cleaning, and daily cooked-to-order breakfast. Other features include a fitness center, indoor pool, sundeck, and therapeutic spa treatments at the full-service Spa Botanica.

Downtown - Latest Updates by T-Mac

Crossroads Block

Couple of photos of the parking ramp that takes it to grade.

They have torn down the wooden barricade on the north side and have now pushed the fencing out into the street. They haven't yet put up the green netting but the very unfriendly security guard at the site said that it is coming very soon and don't get used to looking into the site so easily. I say where there is a will, there is a way.

Fresh new concrete. It looks like they are now getting the parking garage closer to tower 1 and to towers 6 & 7.

Tower 1

The core getting ready for another concrete pour.

These views will be gone in a couple of weeks when they do the pour for the outer walls on the next level. This means that we are getting very close to breaking above grade and being able to watch it climb higher from the street level.

The End!

Rattle, Barbara
Community Development Corp. of Utah, an organization whose goal is to help low-income families achieve home ownership, plans to break ground this fall for Ninth Street Place, a condominium and commercial project at 153 W. 900 S. on property owned by the Redevelopment Agency of Salt Lake City.

The project will consist of 44 units in a five-story "L" shape facing both 900 South and Jefferson Street with parking behind, said Darin Brush, executive director. In addition, three live/work units will be built on a small parcel separated from the main building by an alleyway.

Most of the units will be what we call one-plus units, with one bedroom and a den that can be used as a second bedroom or an office," he said. "We expect these to be highly popular, through our market research. Those will be about 800 square feet. In addition to that we'll have a handful of straight one bedrooms and close to another 10 two-bedroom units."

Roughly 1,000 square feet of space on the corner of 900 South and Jefferson Street will be dedicated solely to commercial use, while the main building will be home to five work/live spaces with approximately 500 square feet on the ground level, suitable for retail use, and 1,000 square feet of living space above. Top level penthouse units will have 12-foot ceilings and substantial views.

The project has been designed by GSBS Architects and will be built by Okland Construction, which should complete the project in an approximately 12-month time frame, Brush said. A broker will be engaged to market the condos.

"Given our market analysis we don't want to be in the luxury condo market," Brush said. "It doesn't fit there anyway and there are plenty of those coming up in the next couple of years. We have great confidence that the market will absorb these units. This is our big project right now."
