you should ask your great great grand parents how they gathered their protein.

cause they probably didnt drive up to superstore and go to the meat department

Maybe you should do the same. Apparently it'll surprise you.

My grandparents were farmers. Animals were killed quickly. No slitting their throats and hanging them to bleed out while still alive.

No they struck the cattle and pigs on the head with a sledge hammer killing them instantly. Then hung them to bleed. For generations humans have tried very hard to kill food animals humanely.

But some cultures make animals suffer on purpose. Some countries are banning this practice.

Severing the carotid cuts off circulation to the brain right away. The animal would immediately lose consciousness. It's just like when someone has a cardiac arrest and loses consciousness immediately.

All this talk is starting to almost make me sick as I sit here eating my steak, eggs and bacon sandwich.

So you don't think stunning an animal before slitting its throat isn't a better alternative to just slitting its throat?

PS Watch No Country For Old Men to see how effective a CO2 stunner is!

^ It's pretty clear that "mainstream" livestock farms and meat processors aren't exactly committed to humane and ethical treatment of animals across the board. Anyone really that concerned about Halal products but who still eats meat strikes me as someone just looking for a convenient excuse to slam Muslims.

No goof, we've developed methods and standards in western society to minimize animal cruelty, but let's throw all that out the window to be more accepting and diverse!

If Breitbart or Stormfront or the PQ claim it, it must be true!

(When you look into it, you find that there's actually very little if any difference between halal and non-halal killing of animals beyond someone praying over them first. Our animal cruelty standards still apply.)

Dairy Queen on Pembina closing permanently. Wrecking ball can't be too far behind. Sounds like plans to move further down Pembina have not panned out so unknown when/if they will re-open.

That site is to become affordable housing for the University, isnt it?

I dont know how old that Dairy Queen is, but I recall being a very young child and go there for Dilly Bars (I seem to recall not much being beyond there on South pembina, maybe a gas station next door?).

"Affordable housing" replacing the Pembina DQ? Not a chance. The place is like on campus housing at U of M taken up a few levels. It seems to be targeting foreign students with deep pockets.

In terms of the DQ, I know most of them are franchise owned and it is reportedly difficult to get a new franchise. I wonder if the Pembina owners claimed the Seasons location when it was being planned.

This is what is proposed for the site... sounds like it will be student housing that will try to be more affordable then what is currently offered.

The building is projected to accommodate 224 units, along with amenities including a gym, more than 200 bicycle stalls, and 52 parking spaces.
Not what I would call "affordable housing", given the extra amenities. There's already a privately run gym at Southwood Mall (Staples, ToysRUs, Best Buy) nearby.

Univ. of Man. students already pay for a WT "U-Pass" so why build another one inside an apt. block? It's not like we have rapid transit and amenitities such as a gym would be a great selling point.

Last year, the median rent for a one-bedroom unit in Fort Richmond was $910, whereas the average cost in Winnipeg as a whole was $806, according to the survey data provided by the province’s housing and community development department.
Supply & Demand.

^^ Why put a gym in an apartment building geared towards students when they have free access to the on campus gym. If anything they should be putting in a DQ on the main floor with a nice drive thru, at least campus doesn't have that.
