Increased pedestrian traffic is generally thought of as a good thing, just about anywhere. I don't think council will base their decisions on nonsensical complaints.

That whole exchange was just...

The guy had poor personal hygiene, his hair was a mess, and he was very condescending to the architect and developers. He spoke cockily, like he was catching them in a lie, and said, more or less:

"Now, I don't see any plans in this proposal for an underground tunnel from one building to the other, is there one of them? Oh, no? Oh, okay. Now, what about for a pedway? Unless it's invisible, I don't see any plans for that? Is there a pedway? Oh... well, then..."

This is the guy who O'Leary interrupted to make sure he knew she agreed with his views on the Marriott pedway controversy.

DaveLane was there - observing, as usual. We'll probably have to wait until he's on council to know which way he'd vote on these sorts of things. But at least we do know he would listen to us - might not vote with us - but he'd listen.

I'd say most of council was there.

And I overheard two of them behind me chatting, and one said "great use of space".

I would there need to be a pedway or and underground tunnel? Though this is one development the two buildings won't have anything to do with each other, will they? It's not like Marriott which is one hotel.

Directly behind the Quality Inn on the harbor side of Duckworth, there will be a boutique hotel that does not have any parking in the building. On the city side of duckworth, there will be a residential building that has parking to serve both buildings. The boutique hotel will have 25 units. So however many people are staying at the hotel and also happen to have their vehicles or rental cars with them will have to cross the street. As the developer says it is only 25 units not 250.

I can see how having 25 people cross Duckworth Street could be annoying.

For NIMBYs, yes. Just imagine the increased noise of that foot traffic.

How many times were the words "eyesore" or "monstrosity" used in this meeting?

Wait - am I being called MaryJane now? Mannnnn.

What's the protocol? Who do you e-mail? All councillors? Or who? Someone give me an e-mail. I will send a strongly-worded letter.

Did someone do that? Sorry!

It's up to you, really. You can email any councillor individually, or:

citycouncil@stjohns.ca

Which goes to all of them.

I thought this was already approved?? All the Councillors were in support of the project. It's going ahead regardless. I wish they'd stop wasting time and allow the shovels to go into the ground!

Great job everyone who sent in a letter of support!

This is a great project, which will greatly improve that area of downtown and deserves to be built.
