What ever goes there I don't think it can be much worse than this old one.

Well, it could always be a parking garage. But at least that would save the land for something better in the future. Whereas that turd would have been permanent. It would be interesting to know what land in the loop is going for nowadays.

The core is not topped out on this project! I'm hearing 3 to 4 more jumps.

Almost home!

Bitching and moaning about more parking.

The "moderator" only wants to call on people who he knows is going to complain.

Time to Jim Webb him.

On a related note, I couldn't make this meeting because I went to the Biennial's talk on the speculative proposals for Chicago organized under the Bold exhibition. CAMESgibson collaborated with SOM on a new highrise format that expanded on TOD policy in the city – allowing for 450' throughout the city. One audience member asked about the scale of it comparable to surrounding buildings (the rendering had it near the Western or California blue line, it seemed EDIT: included below), when the project architect's response was "The short answer is that I don't give a damn what the NIMBYs think. We've got much bigger problems than shadows in the city."

Was great to hear this sentiment expressed in that forum.

Yeah, that guy was such a douche he even gives Feldstein a run for her money - and that's no easy feat (I think he might be Jeff Ayersman, which shouldn't be a surprise)! He kept interrupting me as I wasn't asking an actual question fast enough for his taste (read: I wasn't expressing a pro-parking, auto-centric position), so I spoke over him as many times as I could, basically just echoing some parking space minimization arguments......

At any rate, the vast majority of complaints were of the 'where am I supposed to park my car?" variety, and secondarily, 'how much more traffic am I going to have to sit in?', and arguing for more parking in general in the new developments. I didn't hear much anti-density, anti-size, anti-height sentiment (I'm sure it's out there in PDNA-land, but perhaps it just gets overwhelmed and drowned out by bogeyman #1 - which is parking), which is good....

But...asking for more and more parking IS anti-density and anti-urban...

Can someone please ask these people at the next meeting - where do you park now?

A) "on the street" - ok, so you are part of the problem, and you don't own those spots. Rent a space, walk, or use transit more.
B) "I have a garage spot" - ok, so why do you care?
C) "my visitors need to park" - ok, see A above. A-hole.

^ A number of years ago I became on online enemy of this particular individual you are naming because of PDNA's fight over the X/O towers. He's a real douche, and it looks like nothing has changed.

In fairness, Tina Feldstein did ask for a streetcar instead of a massive parking garage.

I concur on that... I actually take with her for about 15 minutes after the meeting, and she's not as anti-density as one might think.

She's actually a real estate broker.

She told me that she has strong opinions on certain things, i.e. X/O, but she stated that she's actually pro development. Funnily enough, she told me that the current design of the townhouses where X/O would have gone are boring. I wanted to say, "told you", but we just kept chatting.

She also told me that she wishes that the height of the Marriott Marquis hadn't been reduced... HUH? She's blew my minds when she said that... I was fucking confused for a moment.

She said that she's 100% for the Lucas Museum... WTF?

She wants to have conversation or already has had conversation about the neighborhood using the proposed garage that the Park District will be building west of LSD for the neighborhood when not being used by the Bears, which is a great idea.

I'm glad that I talked with her.

As was I.......ah, the good 'ole days. As I remember, it was on the (the site that shall not be named) comments. He's a real piece of work - and the biggest kicker of all is that he works in the oil & gas industry. How classic is that? Move to Elgin - or better yet Houston - already, and get it over with!
