"A frightening moment for many San Francisco residents as a slumping crane rests on the metalwork around the Salesforce tower on Friday.

"The Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) was called out to the building Thursday as the crane was being dismantled. Officials are calling the slump a rooftop mounted derrick.

"According to Cal/OSHA during the dismantling process, the cranes boom ended up slumping and came to a rest on the ornamental metal outside the building.

"The building was not damaged and there were no injuries."

Didn't someone a couple months back express concern that 33 Tehama would obscure the view of the Salesforce Tower? 🤣 To all those critics complaining that this tower is too similar to others I would say while it's not ground breaking it surpasses those in it's elegant simplicity. I've been a fan of Pelli's work since his PDC "Blue Whale." He's unquestionably one of the masters of the modern glass facade.

^If I recall correctly, the concern was 33 Tehama blocking the view of Salesforce from the Fremont Street off-ramp.

I saw the Salesforce Tower in an ad yesterday. The San Francisco skyline (as well as the Los Angeles skyline) are common backdrops for advertisements, but yesterday I saw one with SF that featured the Salesforce Tower. I admit I had to do a double take, as I was so used to seeing ads with the Transamerica Pyramid in the background.

Wait until it and the plaza are done. The rooftop park connection is going to be another feature. I'm personally thinking it looks good, liking the way it sweeps across the north side of the building.

No. Lobbies are wasted space in a building like this unless they do what some do and call part of the lobby their required "publicly accessible private open space".

Have you seen the lobby of the Empire State Building? For years the ESB was the epitome of a skyscraper and its entrance and lobby while nice is not particularly grand.

Got to see this tower last month and was really impressed with it. It really dominates the skyline from many different angles.

^^^JUST WOW!!! Almost criminal that they have to cover up those spaces with the lattice work. And once again this bolsters the case to have a true world class observatory atop a future SF supertall. Thanks for posting Fimiak!
