That's the parking lot with the Dutch Bros at the corner of Grand and Belmont. Fantastic location! And Vallaster is the architect... even better.

Wow, that would certainly be a significant change - surface lot to a 15-story tower!

Assuming the building is 150' it will be almost as tall as the Weatherly Building (175').

I'll be fascinated to see what the Historic Landmarks Commission makes of this. Some of the commissioners are no fans of tall buildings, to put it mildly.

This is fantastic news! I read that the builder of the Weatherly building built it because he was a huge east side booster and wanted to jump start growth in that area, it would be extremely ironic to see other tall buildings quashed on account of the very building built to spur development there the better part of a century ago.

In the SE Quadrant process, staff talked about setting limits in the plan, around the Weatherly, so it would be visible from all directions. (Don't know if it made it into the plan, or would be a future process). As mentioned, the idea was to spur the growth. The Weatherly was built assuming there'd be tall buildings all around it.

I remember that idea too, and looked for it in the draft SE Quadrant Plan but couldn't find it. Even if that idea is in there somewhere it wouldn't make it into the Zoning Code until 2017 at the earliest, by which time this building could be well under construction.

At the pace that area is taking off, this building will probably have several other neighbors working through review by 2017.

So incredibly excited by this! Seems like a very audacious proposal for that site. It amazes me that that area has the economics to justify such a large building.

I like the size of this, especially for the area....it sets a precedence, and I don't hate the design of it, so that's a good thing.

I just realized this building will be a block south of one of my favorite buildings on the eastside. Good to see this will be helping to create a mini skyline on the east end of the Morrison St Bridge. Hopefully this will be the first of many tall buildings to pop up in this little pocket.

I like how the tower, which is set back in other places, steps out to the corner of Belmont and Grand, acknowledging an important corner in the city, at the intersection of the Belmont bridge ramp and Grand Ave. Sort of a parallel to the Weatherly Building at Grand and Morrison, and acknowledges the couplet.
