Will look really good when it's new. Hate to see the hanging walkway and the frames getting rusty over time. Vancouver isn't know to maintain many of the downtown parks too well. Hope it won't turn into the pocket park beside the Hydro building.

I think we've all forgotten about this park.
Here are new renderings:

Quote:
Amenities will include:
Small café space with public washrooms
Community plaza with decorative water feature and seating throughout
Pedestrian bridge and promontory that traverses through the site
Children's playground
Community gathering harvest-table
Multitude of new trees, shrubs, and perennials
Overhead sky-frames to support lighting and temporary installations

The walkway and frames still don't serve any purpose (and sort of wreck the shape), but it otherwise looks like a good inner city park. Kudos to whoever added the café too.

It's too late but this needs a round or two of editing. Too much crammed in - I think it weakens the concept. At least, it makes the conceptual framework hard to visualize: regardless, it also remains possible that the built version will yield an interesting, if curious, spatial experience.

I like the idea of this park very much, but find it "overloaded" and "busy." Couldn't it be simplified a bit, and maybe have a water feature put into it?
There's any number of reasons to add a park to downtown ... you name it. Just make it both serviable, and visually appealing, imo.

The walkways just seem stupid and something that unless properly maintained will look terrible in 15 years.

the park was designed with "Selfies" in mind

It looks alright, a lot of parks are doing stuff like this now. Grass and trees no longer cut it.

... Exactly! The walkways look stupid and they'll rust and rot out in 15 years.

If grass and trees don't cut it anymore? WTF!!! What Does cut it.
Red cedar, aluminum piping and green kryptonite?

Plenty of open concrete areas and an F&B space... and what looks like a pond. So there's already more than just grass and trees - the walkway is unnecessary.

I'd rather see a space for a rotating food truck. More flexible, but just might not look as nice.

It looks like a pop-up amusement park. Something that is there temporary, exciting at first but something we will grow tired of really fast. There is no major theme that draws the eyes to its uniqueness. Certainly this is another example of a schizophrenic project in Vancouver.

Isn't that what the street is for.

I like the cafe and a streetcar space can easily be applied to a parking meter or two.

Maybe that's where they could use turntable from the top of the Empire Landmark? If they park the food truck on top it could really rotate.

I hope the café works out like the JJ Bean on the CBC Plaza - although with luck this will operate over the weekend as well. It's particularly popular when CBC's musical nooner concerts are running every weekday through the summer. (They start on Friday).

Well I wish the city good luck with all of that. Also, the city is adding another separated bike lane on Richards?

There was a rumour that the 'completion' of the Richards St one way protected bike lane was cancelled because they had decided to turn the whole street into a 2-way protected bike lane a la Hornby St.

Why bother, when you can shoot a cannon down the existing one?

I hope they put a gate at the bottom of that ramp thingy, otherwise it is a great space for homeless to sleep in the summer. Glad to see they've incorporated hard surfaces guaranteed to attract skateboarders and annoy adjacent residents.

Yeah, it would make a lot of sense if they made that street 2-way and put in a 2-way bike lane. It's the perfect mirror to Hornby.
