I happen to like Lago... and I'll probably like this one too. But it's just a construction zone now, only 1/3 built, far too early to judge IMO.

It's definitely not too early. I'll even give the giant wall of spandrel facing south a pass. It will probably be covered since Toronto likes to build glass additions on all their heritage buildings. The one facing north abuts the street. There's no building code that limited the design options here. That's more than enough to call this one an eyesore.

Even Caltrane is concerned over a 200 metre tower. That's as big as hell freezing over.

I am praying the balconies will salvage at least a part of it.

Well then, let's say it turns out as horrible as you all think... as I said long ago, there's nothing I can do about it, I'm just typing on a keyboard. I guess we'll all have to live with an almost 200 metre tall, crappy looking building.

Maybe somebody with lots of money in the future will re-clad it and make it look nice.

I'm not going to accept it just because an act of God can only prevent this near 200 metre tall tower from being built. Maybe, just maybe, those that place more value on things other than being near 200 metres can get developers to reconsider building more near 200 metre piles . Movements always starts with one voice or, in this case, one keyboard. See. I can be optimistic. You care mostly about it being near 200 metres. Not everyone else shares your opinion that it's enough.

The condo buyers are the film directors. The condo developers are just the actors.

And I'm part of the audience...

In the grand scheme of things, in my world, I care very little about a skyscraper in downtown Toronto actually. To me, it's just another building. I have no intention of beginning any sort of movement. That sort of stuff doesn't interest me. I observe skyscraper activity, I don't actually get involved with the people who actually matter about how buildings end up looking.

I'll keep making drawings of course, and take pictures and post them here, kind of like a tourist...

The most important thing right now is getting more density downtown.

It will force the hand on many city projects.

I understand that. It's the same as you having to understand that I find this design mediocre abd the tower's prominent stature makes its mediocre design even worse. I also don't need to wait to formulate an opinion on the finishes. The buildings base is already a spandrel mess and the team has a long standing history of producing spandrel messes.

I strongly disagree. We need to take a step back and pursue a grand vision that everyone must follow over the piecemeal, haphazard approach we have now. Density alone doesn't build great communities.

Attempts have been made but have always been held up by property owners that do have valid concerns over losing the development potential of their properties. Of course, this can be easily resolved with density transfers. I don't know if it the province or the feds need to step in to stop this spot blocking to get a plan passed. Of course It still shouldn't be rushed and should be as open a process as possible. Not all developers are land owners so don't be too concerned they will all leave Toronto for Milton.

Rental designs seem to be lesser quality than condos in Toronto. That's not the case here. Of course, this was marketed as a condo until the deal got a sweet deal for the whole building they couldn't pass up on.
