This confirms a longstanding suspicion of mine that the streetlights on residential side streets are spaced closer together in the City of Vancouver than in neighbouring municipalities, resulting in a more well lit street network. You can also pick out
exactly where industrial land use occurs based on the presence of floodlights with a different colour hue than conventional street lights, with the exception being the container terminals on Burrard Inlet. One of the first things I noticed when I moved to Toronto is that the streetlights are generally white-ish instead of the orange I have grown up with in Vancouver. Interesting to note that UBC shies away from the orange sodium vapour lamps street lights used almost everywhere else.
