Koolmaudit,
I just return from a few month stint doing work in northern Albania - specifically in Valbona Valley - you should really cross the border and visit the areas around Bajram Curri, Thethi etc in Albania. Kosovo has it rough financially, but crossing into Albania feels like officially leaving the 1st world. Very localized economy, also very friendly (not surprising since Kosovo is largely Albanian).
I spent a fair amount of time in Kosovo - Pristina, Prizren, Sharri Mountains - and loved it, mainly because the people are so friendly. And yeah, beer sure is cheap! Gjakova (sp?) in the south was the biggest surprise - very cool ottoman district.
Macedonia is also a short bus ride away and worth the visit. The recent history in the area is fascinating, but of course disturbing. If you need specific tips let me know, and have fun!
Oh yeah, go to TIRANA. One of the most interesting places I've been.
