Tom Smykowski: It was a "Jump to Conclusions" mat. You see, it would be this mat that you would put on the floor... and would have different CONCLUSIONS written on it that you could JUMP TO.

Michael Bolton: That's the worst idea I've ever heard in my life, Tom.

Samir: Yes, this is horrible, this idea.

Thanks for the updates! Growing at a good pace now.

OD - why would round columns possibly mean no spandrels? Is that generally the case?

My guess is that round columns signifies that they are going to be left exposed, and not hidden away within a wall or behind spandrel panels. If you look at the Shangrila or the Erickson you can see their columns right through the glazing.

Yeah. There was a show with some interior decorator on HGTV (don't remember the show, but they use Dekora) trying to stage a condo at Shangri-la for sale.

The column was in the middle of nowhere in the living room

Capitol also has columns. Luckily they are at least against a wall in a corner.

^ I noticed that in the construction pics. If they're being left exposed within the units then why do they have to hide them from the outside world with spandrel?

^^It might be to prevent solar heat gain. The city isn't the most creative bunch when it comes to dealing with that. UDP first demanded a more commercial (meaning more window wall) treatment for the east portion of the tower, then for the south face, said "more spandrel please", and bam, uglyness. Same thing happened w/ the curtain wall on West Pender Place.

Vancouver has a fever, and the only prescription is more spandrel.

I'll settle for more odd protrusions.

I was showing a friend Capitol, and he saw it and asked "Is THAT permanent?"

Oooh~ wouldn't that be funny. Vancouver could be the first to have a 40 floor double wide, or motorhome.

"Yeah, it looks a bit small now, BUT, push this button and we have 5 more feet! Yeah, then you can lay the fridge down and a bed pulls out..."

And all for only $500,000

Update 15MAY10

Note the flag wrap coming down. I wonder if this is the unveiling or maybe a new wrap going up?
