Great deal, maybe not for the taxpayers, but $6M per year for building maintenance is pretty sweet, must be some real good kickbacks for the politicians involved!

I have no idea if it is a good deal, but to be fair it is more than building life cycle maintenance it includes equipment maintenance and, according to SaskBuilds:

Maintenance Services
During the term of the Project Agreement after occupation of the Facility by the Authority, Project Co will be required to provide facility maintenance services, which may include:
(1) general management services;
(2) plant services;
(3) environmental services;
(4) grounds maintenance and landscaping services;
(5) help desk services (system appropriate for scope of facility maintenance services);
(6) utility management services; and
(7) roads and parking.
Day to day building management, including housekeeping services, laundry and food services will remain the responsibility of the Authority.

The best thing about hydro is that the revenues do not count for Federal equalizations purposes.

I noticed a new large construction site just north of Highway 33, I believe just east of Kronau. Large earthmoving equipment is levelling a big area. I am assuming this is Western Potash's $80 million mini potash mine.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Um, was my post deleted because it came from behind a paywall?

I think it would be common courtesy if the mods would inform the originator the reason why their post is deleted.

This is funny.

Simply replace "Clean Environment Commission" with "NDP" and the article makes sense.

This province is in such a mess.

Its a weekly paper behind a paywall.

Basically the article states that the MB NDP government screwed up a proposal to build a wind farm south of Killarney MB. With their usual ability to get everyone pissed at them, the county of Rollette in North Dakota stepped in and got the project (along with the ability to tap into the grid at Glenboro) and built it less than a 1 mile south of the Manitoba location.

(Is it okay to post a letter to the editor?)

So keeping a lake level artificially high doesn't create problems later when the inflow is greater than the outflow, who knew!

Manitoba, Nunavut extend trade deal

Quote:
The two governments are exploring a possible energy transmission line between Manitoba and Nunavut, as well as how they might improve trade and where a new winter road might be located.............
http://www.winnipegsun.com/2015/11/1...end-trade-deal

Gregs pulling out all the stops now, although again, I'd like to see more of an economic union, benifiting both Nunavit and Man. in the long term, but haven't we all seen these kinds of announcements prior to elections? We'll see..where this goes..

OmniTrax looking to sell Port of Churchill, Hudson Bay Rail

Quote:
The Port of Churchill and the rail line that services Canada’s most northerly grain export terminal are up for sale...

....... if a deal to sell the assets cannot be negotiated, the company will explore all options, including closures of the port facility, the rail line or both
http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/bus...359786241.html (pay-wall)

Unfortunate set of circumstances. The port has had such difficulty remaining feasible..

It is no longer profitable and nobody wants to ship half full grain cars. Let it die.

I believe it's been at this point for some time. Crude was never going to be transported along those rail lines and the environmental risks were always at the forefront of the discussion.

^ They've been trying for nearly a hundred years with only limited success... it may be time to give up the ghost with the Port of Churchill.
