We are excited to be hosting you for the inaugrual Viterra Ironman 70.3 Calgary, western Canada's first ever Ironman 70.3 triathlon. We hope you are arriving in good form, injury free and ready to race.
WE have over 20 countries represented, every Canadian province and two territories and many friends from across the USA (including representatives from over 40 states). Our international representatives include athletes from Dubai, South Africa and Japan to name a few.
Some interesting Facts about our race inlcude:
- Over 1600 registered athletes
- 900 volunteers (Including almost 80 trained medical professionals (doctors, paramedics, etc..
- Athletes will consume:
- 3192 Litres of PowerAde (3000 - 591ml bottles,1500 946ml bottles)
- 6666 Litres of water (200 - 20L Bottles, 4512 - 591ml bottles Dosani Water)
- 88 - 2L Coke (176 Litres)
- 30,000 cups
- 3000 PowerBars and 4500 Gels
The Viterra Ironman 70.3 Calgary Triathlon is a world-class sporting
event that includes a 1.9 km swim course, a 90 km bike course and a run course that is 21.1 km in length.
As athletes can qualify for Ironman 70.3 World Championships, the Viterra Ironman 70.3 is part of an elite few in global triathlon.
Our team is proud to bring such prestigious event to Calgary and area. We also look forward to presenting our home to people
from around the world.
The event will potentially impact local traffic during the morning hours of August 2, 2009. Our course has been specifically
designed to minimize traffic interaction. Race participants will start in waves in order to limit the density of athletes that start on
the bike course at any given time.
There will be no road closure on course, with the exception of one lane on Glenmore trail between Sarcee Trail and 37th Street,
within the City of Calgary. There will be minimal left hand turns on the bike course to ensure minimal traffic interruption. Police
or safety personnel will supervise all intersections on course to ensure safe traffic flow.

through Alberta Ranch country, and then into Southwest Calgary. Additional scheduling information on traffic impact is posted on
our website to facilitate planning. For your awareness, the details of the bike course are as follows:
Highway 1A from Ghost reservoir to Grand Valley Road 7:15 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
Grand Valley Road from 1A to TWP 280 7:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
TWP 280 from Grand Valley to Horse Creek 8:00 a.m. – 10:40 a.m.
Horse Creek Road from TWP 280 to 1A 8:00 a.m.. – 11:15 a.m.
1A from Horse Creek Road to highway 22 8:20 a.m. – 11:20 a.m.
Highway 22 from 1A to TWP 250 8:25 a.m. – noon
TWP 250 from highway 22 to RR 31 8:40 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
RR 31 from TWP 250 to Lower Springbank Road 9:00 a.m. – 12:40 p.m.
Lower Springbank Road from RR 31 to 69 St 9:10 a.m. – 12:50 p.m.
Highway 8 from 69 St to Glenmore Trail 9:25 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.
Glenmore Trail from highway 8 to 37 St curb lane closed to traffic
37 St from Glenmore Trail to North Glenmore Park 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
North Glenmore Park will be closed to vehicle traffic until 5:00 p.m.
The pathway through Weaselhead Flats between the top of the hill on the south side and
the top of the hill on the north side will be closed to wheeled traffic until 4:00 p.m.
