From 2007 to 2012 to go from rendering to approval. Is that standard?

Is is when you have NIMBY and Cadbury fighting against this proposal.

I found a colour rendering of this. Anyone know if construction has started or when it will?

I seem to recall that Cadbury appealed the approval from last year. I confirmed this by looking at the OMB website. It says there is a prehearing scheduled for April 11, 2013. If that is just the prehearing, then the actual OMB process could drag on longer. So technically the zoning isn't even in place yet so having this building under 'approved' may be a tad premature.

From Twitter@JoeyColeman ·

Council approved the rezoning of 17 Ewen in early 2013. It was appealed to OMB, they just approved a settlement of the appeals.
I guess they can start construction.

Seven years on, that render looks pretty God-awful. Perhaps it'll come out better.

However, it smells like heaven. It's like opening up a bag of mini eggs each time I go to that Main St W Fortinos.

I worked at that factory briefly last year and yeah, its still very much in operation. They've actually been ramping up operations since Mondelez acquired Cadbury a few years ago. I'm kinda surprised that this place is going in so close though aside from truck traffic, the place isn't terribly noisy or intrusive from the outside.

Not a bad design. I don't blame them for playing up the greenery, that stretch of Main W. makes Upper James seem pretty.

It would be nice to see some redevelopment right along Main. The block between the street and this building would be a prime candidate -- that former Burger King at the corner of Rifle Range has been empty a while, not sure if the billiards place is still open, and the former Pizza Hut has been vacant too. If I'm not mistaken the Carstar and Money Mart are the only businesses still operating?
